hello, my name is travis i bought a 2000 x1 about a month ago and fell in love with it(first buell and first street motorcycle at that). When i got it it was in very very ruff shape to say the least. Im currently looking at upgrading front forks and a friend of mine is selling the entire fork set up including brakes and tire off of a 03 hayabusa i am wondering if it is even possible to swap them and put it on my x1. I am not worried about any custom fab to put the gauges on and wiring to it. let me know what you guys think p.s hope to be a long time member here everyone seems real friendly. |

The Buell forks are longer than most late model jap bikes and you may run into issues there. The longest JAP USD I could find for a customers FXDX was the first of the GSXR 1100 USD's. The clip ons were on top of the top clamp on them. The other area of concern is the Buell stem is longer than most jappas I've played with and that's before you get into different diameters. Like all things, given enough time and money you can achieve almost anything but this isn't an easy swap and I don't see what you would gain anyway other that just having something different. if your forks need fixing I'd fix 'em or buy another set of Buell (showa) legs. |

Unless damaged beyond repair, consider sending your X1 forks to Racetech for a total rebuild. http://racetech.com/ProductSearch/2/Buell/X1%20Lig htning/1999-2002 |

I have heard (although haven't tried it so don't quote me!) that a GSXR100 forks will drop straight into teh stock X1 triple trees. If this is true then the Hayabusa forks may well be the same. If they don't fit straight on then you may be able to get some triple trees made to fit these forks. You would have to revalve the forks and fit lighter springs probably, but you would end up with better forks and better brakes (open can of worms and stand back!) than you started with. |

Travis: Look in the Knoweledge vault about 3+ years back I overhauled a set of X1 forks no issues Unless the chromed slider tubes or the upper legs are damaged they are pretty easy to service by changing to the busa front end you are making it different but maybe not better good luck and welcome to the madness |

Ok sounds like it won't work at all I was considering it because they already had the 2 bigger front brakes and if they fit it would have been cheaper to drop them in.... I guess that's where alot of it comes in is me trying to get that second brake on the front I've seen a couple kits but they r pretty pricey so it seems like its pushed to a winter project for now.. Does anyone here know what ci engine is the biggest you could get in that tuber frame? I'm interested in beefing it up over the winter aswell |

IIRC reading some thing about 100 ci or 4" jugs by S&S and some cautions about total engine heights what is the advantage of having 2 disk brakes on the front? They were available years ago as a racing part, |

Well along with the bigger engine I wanted more stopping power and I was under the impression that the only way to do that is by adding a second front but recently starting thinking if there was a possible way to put a bigger caliper/rotor on the rear maybe it would be better? I'm not entirely sure that's gonna work but before I start ordering and hacking away at metal to make custom brackets I figured I would get everyone's opinion... Thank you for the engine info I will start looking at them |

I would look for an 1125 front clip with brakes ( I have one ) the bigger forks are stiff, and the brake is equal to 2 disks |

Motogadget Pro http://www.trojan-horse.co.uk/prods/473.html Not Buell specific but easy to fit to most bikes, and probably the best quality digital instruments around (German of course). |

Travis, since this is your first bike i would recommend keeping it stock for now. The front forks and brakes if in good working order are just fine. Rebuild the forks, Change the brake fluids with new fluid and bleed the system good. I think the brakes are fine on my x1. I race mine on twisty roads and it handles fine. Learn to ride first, and have fun, don't get tired up modifying things yet. You might run into mechanical problems, spend to much money and get discouraged.... Ride baby ride. |

My x1 was in terrible shape when i bought it (for cheep). I rebuilt my front forks my self, had the rear shock rebuilt, put new poisons and cylinders on it, and fixed the cosmetic and electrical issues.i think i put 30k miles on it in three years. It is a fine machine stock, just ride.... |

YEAH What he said , you grab a handful of front brake when all is good and you will be happy with the stock set up. While there is always room for improvements the front is very good stock , NOW the rear brake well not so great for me and my X1. This one was headed for the junkyard when I got it. Copy that only reason I'm doing the stuff (except the brakes and engine which were winter projects) was because something is broken gauge cluster is cracked, rear brake light housing is cracked and starting to fall apart and the front headlight/blinkers aren't bright enough for where I ride(can't see enough and almost got hit because they said they "couldn't see my blinker because it was to dull") so that's why I'm replacing certain things on my bike and the engine is getting done this winter because its got 35k miles on it and I don't wanna break down somewhere because a guy before me beat on the bike and didnt maintain it properly. Also maybe you guys can help me my rear wheel looks like it is crooked if looking at the rear of the bike it looks like the front of the rear wheel is more to the left and the back is to the right not by alot just real slightly it doesn't shake or anything at any speeds was just wondering if that is normal or no I will try to get pics up but the guy I bought it from just had a new belt put on it and I'm not sure if the mechanic put it back on straight |

Read the service manual for wheel alignment. Check the rear wheel adjuster gap to see it is the same on the left and right side. |

You might want to ebay stock parts for replacement. Check with some of the guys on this site, to see if you can run higher watt turn signal light bulbs. If you want to be seen on your bike get a front head light modulator, and a rear tail light modulator. I have both and people comment how well they work. http://www.customdynamics.com/signal_dynamics_diam ond_star_headlight_modulator.htm |

I finally went out today and took a look at my rear tire and my left side(clutch side) was a half inch further back then my my right side(rear axle wise) I straightened it out both are even now and it handles like a completely different bike I mean night and day difference I couldn't believe it was like that. |

motodynamics make a fantastic stock looking tail light for the S1/X1 - its the same set up on a Ducati Monster and some Moto Guzzis- its very bright L.E.D and integrated turn signals, comes with good instructions and an easy job to do. Note: while wiring it up and testing it you will want to ensure you battery is charged! if you let the battery get a little low the light will send all kinds of failure indications that will drive you crazy trouble shooting for no reason..brake light wont work, turn signals wont work etc...keep the battery charged or if it starts acting like its got a failure while wiring, start the bike up to test the lights..its a great light I have it on 3 Buells and 2 Guzzis with no complaints and it is much brighter! they come in clear lenses and smoke, I bought clear ones for my bikes and really like them http://www.ebay.com/itm/94-07-Buell-S1-X1-M2-BLAST -SMOKE-SEQUENTIAL-INTEGRATED-SIGNAL-LED-Tail-Light -/360703607599?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&fi ts=Make%3ABuell&hash=item53fb9c432f&vxp=mtr for turn signals I run zepto L.E.D turn signals, they are the brightest on the market and I am really happy with them as well. http://hightechspeed.com/products/Zepto/ |

they come with a little built in "chip" board that is easy to hide back under the tank, I did a write up here on the forum on installing them. they have a great integrated wiring system where the wires coming off the turn signal have a connection point like a set of headphones (RCA jack?) so that they can be easily and quickly disconnected, the other end of that runs to the board and then individual wires. I still have not hooked mine up with power to the running light portion but eventually will... |
