Ok i had my engine gone through before last season no problems till now. Leaking at jug rear cylinder. Could the bolts need re torqued? I am going to do the rocker conversion and fix this when I do. What are the best gaskets to get and bolts? 96 S1    | ||

The correct way is to replace the base gasket ... If you remove a wrist pin clip you can leave the piston in the cylinder and not disturb the rings ... | ||

Ok no problem with that any thought on why it is doing it? Sometimes nature of the beast, other times cause by throttle tuning,by not allowing the motor to warm up sufficiently before revving the piss out of it. } | ||

Or you could have non-flat mating surfaces on the jug and the case. Piece of dirt when it was reassembled, someone didn't scrape all the old gasket off, someone installed a gasket with a wrinkle in it... | ||

re-torquing these head bolts is not recommended. You may need to replace the head bolt studs to get the proper stretch when torquing. Just me, but I would not even look at this until the snow flies (assuming you are not someplace where it is too freeking hot to ride now). (Message edited by essmjay on July 11, 2013) | ||

Yes the engine was leaking but alot worse. Had 883 jugs pistons and tops so I purchased new so the whole top was replaced did not leak a drop last year. I will go at this in the winter as in Mn its riding time now. I always let it warm up but this year have been pushing the revs up to 5500 or so when riding and crusing more around 4000 to where Last year I shifted at 45 or so and cruised around 3 but kept getting the buell cough at 3. Any sugestions on good base gaskets? I will get new bolts is there better bolts? | ||

When "i" bought my 1997 S3T, one of the "PRODUCT IMPROVEMENTS" was to put a "PCV" set up in the TIMING PLUG HOLE which takes care of the WEEPING PRESSURE in the bottom end ... Have 111,819.6 miles as of the last ride and have never replaced a BASE GASKET !!! | ||

That is the best Idea I have heard in a while here . These engines make a lot of crank case pressure and it has to go somewhere. | ||
