Im thinking of machining an aluminum housing to mount my X1 ignition switch to the bracket between the 2 cylinders... this would locate the switch dead center of the cylinders and heat!! In the back of my mind i keep thinking I read a while back that the switches had problems with heat... am i right or should i be fine to mount it there?

Pur,
Some of them are trouble. My '99 not any. My '00 replaced with Drag Specialties. Hate it. Not a drop in!

I think if you mount it to a "heat sink" that would be a good thing.

I don't think you need a heat sink. The switches are mechanical, not electronic, so heat isn't going to be an issue. We hung switches off the top motor mount all the time on Big Twins, never had an issue. And an S2 already has the switch there.

My S1W switch is right there in between the jugs. Lots O' heat coming out of there, I have had no issues at all. BTW, don't hang a lot of crap on your key ring, the extra weight flapping in the wind will cause issues...

Sporsters have had their switches there for decades.
I don't think the jugs get hot enough to bake those, do they?
Or are they better switches?
