Well I finally added an S2 to the stable! I was looking through Craig's list the other day and saw an S2 for sale in Tulsa Ok. I called a really good buddy of mine who lives in the region and he said he only lived about 1.5 hours away from where the bike was located. so Ive been thinking about taking a break from wedding planning and I finally decided to call the owner and sort the bike over the phone. as I was dialing his number my buddy sent me a text with a....... a photo of the bike on his trailer back at his place! he had the day off and nothing going on so decided to make the drive and see it in person instead of waiting...says I owe him 2200.00 and dinner for the 3 hours in the car and the pick up...its now safely tucked into his garage until I can get it to the East Coast. 1996, pearl white with a white frame, 9,000 miles!

Congrats, looks like it was well cared for.

I saw that bike and wished it were a different color (I already have a white one). Damn good score.

The S2 really is a magical bike. I have no idea why they're so undervalued. How many people get to own a handmade motorcycle with such high-level components?

yeah 1995...fat finger typo, although I did not know that a white frame was only available in 95.. really excited about getting to see this bike, sort it out and start any work it needs and riding it! I need to find bags now, I think preferably the conversion rack and s3t bags.... its going to look great sitting next to the others! now all I need is to get it into cross country condition and fly out to Tulsa and ride home..or have it delivered for about 500.00, yeah fly and ride sounds so much more fun!

Hey Ratbuell, when I finally get it home ill have to invite you out for a few beers and dinner off the grill if you are interested in walking around it with your S2 experience and helping with "the list" ! Then we can make a local ride or something...

All I know right now is, missing rear cylinder breather bolt, one fork is leaking, rear shock .. I think, could be residual from breather bolt or rocker box or.... And needs tires, and the tongue that is attached to the seat lock that catches the seat tab is missing, and the seat pan is broken at a corner, so new seat or repair the broken corner with some fiberglass work... Gonna need a seat!

Yeah my buddy totally surprised me with snagging this one for me without directly asking.... I've been so tied up with work and wedding prep that I had not even called seller. I made an off handed comment in a text to my buddy about "you know, I could scrounge up about 2200.00 right now for that bike"... No follow up and suddenly I own it!

That is exactly what buddies are for...to help you make decisions (that's for you Jim G.)

Sometimes, by the time you actually get to the wedding, you are simply worn out from all the "loose ends" that you tied up.

Definitely would have missed this one. Hooray for friends who know us well

Do the fly-n-ride. You will not regret it. Call Al at American Sport Bike and get him involved. Then ship needed items to your buddy. Buy tires locally and have shod there! Have a good BBQ and some beers, take off the next morning heading East. No time like the present...seize it and enjoy yourself.

And then, in your own words, in your own profile, I find this...It is much better to live life than to simply get through it

Exactly! my ony concern with a fly and ride on this bike is that I do not know the history very well, but my buddy is a very competent mechanic and will help me sort it prior to the ride....now I need bags or a backpack! I did a fly and ride two years ago picking up my moto guzzi v11 and loved it...we became close friends in the three days on the road!

"honey moon" trip is a cost to coast ride in August after the wedding this week....yeah who goes coast to coast in August? I try to explain to the new bride that August in the Midwest is HOT HOT HOT...and it's HOT! but she is adamant that we do this!! so now I have a 2nd trip planned 1/2 way across....Fly to Tulsa, Ok, and stay at my buddy's, by the way, to make the story even better, the guy that picked this up for me is actually the best man in my wedding, (have known him since high school and we ended up being test pilots together) check out his toys and bike collection then ride home....maybe through Tail of the dragon then up the blue ridge parkway!....need to go rescue it before the August rip cause I really want it in my garage soon!

first thing is a seat, then the rocker box conversion, tires, and then the fun begins...need to source the tab on the lock that holds the seat down, and it has a super trap exhaust but its missing the end cap and the discs..anyone got any ideas about that? is that something I can just call supertrap and the part is still available or.......

I have my S1 perfectly sorted and my x1 could use the rocker box conversion and a better exhaust (it still has the old Vance and Hines with the poor design) but the x1 Is sorted as well, and I fixed the push rod tube leak and a few other things on the s3, so that bike is sorted....now its time to learn the particulars on the S2 and dig in!

I've been looking for a while and watching every S2 that popped up for sale so I'm really excited about getting this bike!..and the first comments from the new bride......"is that the Buell I can ride?" yep she's a keeper!

For the trip home:

1. I have a stock seat that's never been used, a Corbin Gunfighter (solo) and a Corbin Gunfighter & Lady (2-up). Take your pick, you can use it for the trip.
2. I have a supertrapp on a shelf with extra discs, endplate, and screws. Also available for your trip (and yes, you can still order plates and discs and screws from Supertrapp).
3. I can make you a lock tab out of flat stock, I'll just use mine as a template.

I probably have breather bolts here too, I'll dig through the bin-o-bolts...

I have rear shocks...but not sure what shape they're in.

And any tuber tank bag will fit an S2, so you can carry some "stuff" that way.

Just remember - ALWAYS park facing UPHILL. An S2 will walk off its sidestand in a heartbeat.

I leave it in gear, and roll it all the way forward (slack out of the belt) if I'm not on a hill, so that it can't roll forward and fall off the stand. Haven't lost her yet.

well the right fork is leaking but don't know how badly, so I bought the forks off ebay from the quick silver bike that "biker chuck" had for sale and got parted out...I figured it could cost more than 240.00 to buy parts to repair the ones I have and not sure how bad the one on the bike are so...new non leaking forks are headed my way...one problem solved!

Ratbuell, thanks for the offer, I would really like to get together and check out your S2 "collection" just to help set a base line......I'm not sure when I can squeeze this "rescue - fly and ride" trip in but I appreciate the offers for help! I just bought the seat so I should be ok, but...any chance your Corbin could be for sale? I would definitely take you up on the seat tab, though I am beginning to wonder if the lock is bad and that's why the tab was taken off....these are deep locks from what I understand..still available??..either way, I would trade you some beers or something more substantial for a mounting tab! maybe I have a part you need? I do need a breather bolt but if its the straight one I think I have one of those, if its the 90 degree elbow like the X1 style I don't think I have one of those...ultimately this will get the standard XB rocker box conversion but I hear that it needs either two front or two rear due to clearance issues....

good to know about the supertrap cover and plates...how many plates should I buy?

I gotta say, I am REALLY excited about getting my hands on an S2!!!

I suppose this thread at some point belongs in the S2 area once I really get into the technical details just to keep things pure here on the board...

Rhonda just has a normal set of XB rockerboxes and dosen't have any clearance issues.

I can make a guess as to what happened to your seat tab, if it was like my experience with Rhonda. I had a duplicate key made while I was getting locks for the S2T saddlebags. The first time I went to test the spare key for the seat, it completely broke the lock. Lock would not turn with either the new key or the original in it. Of course, my registration was now locked up under that seat, and the locked down seat meant that fuel tank could not be removed. Awkward...

I studied the problem for a good hour, and finally decided the only way to remove the seat was to go in through the top, and then remove the retention tab from the seat base.

Oh yeah - I left out - this was a nice Corbin Gunfighter and Lady with Red piping to match the bike.

I carefully cut the vinyl around the back, folded it forward, sliced the foam off the base, lifted it up, then attacked the rivet holding the strap on the back of the seat with a dremel.

It worked, but the seat has looked like an crash test dummy ever since, even with copious repair using 200 MPH tape. After the surgery, I also removed the lock tab ...like you suspected, lock probably broked and former owner worked out an alternate retention system - I use Velcro. At some point I'll get that seat repaired - it looks like shit, but I cannot see it from where I sit.

Congratulations on your find. It's a beautiful bike. Hope you get to do the FlynRide home.

I can make a tab. I also think it's the same lock cylinder as a saddlebag...which I have spares of. When I bought my S2, it had 3 keys - ignition/seat, left bag, right bag. Ugh. I re-keyed (ordered new cylinders to match the ignition/seat key), and kept the 4 old locks and 2 keys. You're welcome to use one if you want.

The supertrapp discs are sold - IIRC - in a pack of 12. I have 24 discs, long mounting screws, and an endcap you can borrow. A long superslab trip is a perfect chance to find the volume you want. Tune it with the discs to get the sound level you want on the trip, then jet it to match once you get it home (you won't hurt anything other than WFO performance by not being jetted for the number of discs you run on the way home). Then, once you know your formula...order discs and an endcap and return mine. I finally have a stock muffler on my bike, so I won't be needing the discs anytime soon.

I should have the breather bolts I took off my S2 when I changed to XB rockerboxes. I used two fronts because the rear box on the rear made the PCV valve hit the bottom of the tank. No two tanks are the same, though, so your mileage may vary. I have a NIB rear box if you want to do a test-fit once you get to that point - order a front, borrow my rear, and see what fits your particular tank.

Seats, I'm keeping. For some reason they fit me like a glove. The solo Corbin on my S1W is a torture device...but I've done all day rides on the S2 seats (as well as track days) and I love 'em.

Let me know when you are in the area, we can try and work out a tour and I can loan you some bits n pieces for the trip : )

Jolly, I think I have an older RKA bag set up I can donate to the cause, tank and saddlebags I used on my S-2. Not the prettiest but worked great across country. Heck if you look through the RKA site my bike was in the catalog for eons.

Thanks FiremanJim I just bought bags for this from another Bad Webber, forks showed up today and cleaned up nicely! seat should be here this week as well...I am well on my way!!body needs some work to bring it back to pristine then it leads to paint...return to stock ice white or snap red?? leaning towards snap red...does that make me a criminal not returning an S2 to the color it left the "factory"?

I'll take one if you're selling! I am concerned about the lock though.... With a missing tab and a broken seat base I don't think it's a coincidence.... My guess is the lock went bad and he broke the seat to remove it.... And I don't know if those deep locks are still available....

My favorite two words:

Vel
Cro.

The S2 seat pan actually fits "in" the bodywork fairly nicely, as opposed to just sitting "on" it. Some good heavy duty velcro on the seat bottom, and the bodywork underneath, and it should handle all but the twistiest of roads for you just fine.

I'm hoping this weekend I'll have time to check my locks, compare depths from my seat latch to my spare saddlebag latches. And looking at my odometer last night when I filled up...I should probably toss a 30k service at the bike as well : )

First, welcome to the S2 madness!
Second, what Rat said! The seat tab/lock are a pain. Just use velcro. I use it on mine with a Corbin, my son's locking tab works perfect. Mine didn't.. The seat won't go anywhere. I've got tens of thousands on mine with no issues what so ever.

finally received the title for the bike, it is truly a single owner bike purchased in OK and shows a title issue date 7/16/96.
Someone was asking what the first two digits in the title are: 4M...3rd digit is a Z...does that mean anything?

by the way, this clearly belongs in the S2 section now, Ill work to have it moved....
