Well I added a single shim to the needle. Put the 48 back in. put the carb back on...and snapped a breather bolt. €×€_£^€<{¶\!!!

So I got to HD in time for the next day order yesterday. $19.42 each! Ouch! I ordered 2 though - my luck I'd put on the new one and snap the other old one. should be in today, bike together tonight and hopefully a road test tonight. (Fingers crossed)

OK. $41 worth of new bolts, .19 worth of star washers to lock them in place without lots of torque. 48/195, 1 shim under the needle head, 2.5 turns out. Starts and runs awesome. Practically without choke, in a 70 degree shop. Rode from the shop to the garage, no hiccups, no hesitation.

No real "ride" tonight because the tonneau cover I ordered for my truck arrived today, so I put that on tonight too (been needing one to protect my PA when I do shows with the band). Extang FullTilt, pretty badass cover (I think, anyway). Whole frame/tarp hinges at the bed front, lifts up in one piece for loading, and you can disconnect the whole shebang in one piece to take it off the truck for big items (rotates up enough inside my garage to do it, too, without hitting the ceiling). Can also do the old-school unsnap/roll up if I have to grab something big and I didn't take it off at home first.

Nice, how much did the cover rush you?

I'm seriously considering buying a truck when I get over the water but I too will want a covered bed.

Cover was $400 on ebay, free shipping. Seems to be nice, drove with it tonight to hit the store. Canvas is a little flappy...not "bounce a quarter off it" like I expected...but no snaps popped so I'm guessing it's good. My first bed cover so I'm learning as I go - always had open beds.

M2 is finally beaten. Shim under the needle did it : ) Star washers are holding the breather bolts fine. Now just need to finish-adjust the shifter peg for my big ass canoe-shoe and it'll be all good! : )

This spring I had lost a breather bolt on a ride, (last fall I changed to the Force Winder intake), after looking at the manual, I noticed it called for using "Hylomar" to keep the bolt from vibrating out and torqued the bolt to the spec in the manual. no problems with it all summer.

I usually use teflon tape pr RTV on the threads, to seal them to the head. Hylomar can melt and drip and make a mess.

They don't work loose on me, mine broke this time because I overtorqued it during the carb work. The star washer is just a way for me to remind my dumb self that "hey dummy...you don't have to put a breaker bar on this one...". Just tight enough for the washer to grab, and done.
