Anyone here have any helmet preference for the X1 bikes . I ask because of the air from the short windscreen. I need more vents because it gets hot here in Arizona, so airflow is important. I am 6'1" and wide shoulders so I get a decent amount of wind shear :-) but I am wondering about the best aerodynamic full face helmet for bikes with no or small fairings. I have a Large melon and the XXL did not fit me even though the measurements said it would . you had better try on in a store b4 you buy on line EDIT : Nice helmet by the way (Message edited by roxxx on May 15, 2013) | ||

Spend the coin for your melon!!! I ONLY buy QUALITY for mine. Shoei X11 had 5 yrs replaced last year with a Shoei X12 Glory..love em.. If your buying online, try whatever helmet you choose on first. Once you pull the shield protector off… its YOURS!! | ||

To add, most helmets with a good sized spoiler will buffet and lift less. A round back helmet will try to pull your head off at high speed. The first helmet I purchased without trying one on first. It was agonizing to wear for an extended length of time. HJC makes decent helmets for the money, but I'd still buy one over $200. HJC and Shoei fit me best. Again, try before you buy. | ||

I've had good experience with the HJC brand high end lids. I run an X1 flyscreen, but have lower bars and am 5'10". New enough or whatever they're calling themselves now have some large sizes in the top shelf HJC's on clearance pricing right now. I'll try to find you a link, got an email from them about it in the last week. The Joe Rocket branded helmets were made for them by HJC as well. | ||

They list their yellow as "dark yellow" but from the pics it's not a lot different than your bike. Ive had great experience dealing with these guys. Excellent customer service and very easy to deal with on returns and exchanges. Ebay may not prove to be the same, though if it's a store with a ebay store you're prolly gonna do okay there. | ||

I bought this helmet in the gold last year and like it a lot. It's very light and stable. i really like HJC, its quality stuff for not a ton of coin and if youre checking newenough/motorcyclegear they have a Joe Rocket helmet (made by HJC) for almost nothing I bought one a bit back, the Abyss, and its super comfy and feels great at 130+ (its my race helmet currently) | ||

Whoa, they spelled Buell wrong! But, seriously I had a Buell brand KBC, crashed with it and the helmet sustained several hard impacts. I walked away generally unscathed with no head injuries.    So, with that experience under my belt I went back to the KBC VR series.  They are well built, have excellent aerodynamic properties, and very low buffeting effect without being heavy. Also they are ACU Gold, ECE R22.05 and DOT approved as are most high quality helmets. KBC is low cost high quality alternative. I have had much more expensive units, but have found the KBC to be on the same level as HJC, Shoei and others. ..........IMHO.......... (Message edited by kc_zombie on May 16, 2013) | ||

Suggest you consider the shape of your head as an important consideration too. WebBikeWorld.com has a lot of reviews that describe the internal shape, as an important factor in what helmet. They also address wind noise, and buffeting. I had Bell for years, until the closed for a while. Now I been sticking with Arai for the last couple decades, cause of their shape inside. If the helmet,whatever brand, has a removable liner you can wash it. A removable liner allows you to tweak the shape a little also.  | ||

Lol!! I crash tested a HD branded KBC and was happy with the results (head remained intact and no sign of concussion). I've just stuck with the HJC because I keep getting such great deals on them. Have owned several KBC's in the last 16 years and have always been pleased with their quality vs price point. Their composite material lids are nice and light as many of the other brands and seem to hold up well in a crash (had a side impact on a helmet early on when I dumped(low side) the bike, running off a curve in a local canyon). My experience and good fortune have played out well in that I've not had the opportunity to crash test an HJC yet. I'm trying to keep it that way. But the lids I've worn thus far have done well with the short windscreens I've been running the last 16 years of riding. |
