Between these three which one would you pick:

Continental Conti Motion
Michelin Pilot Power 2CT
Pirelli Diablo Rosso II

It's for a 2000 X1 and I'm keeping the stock front size but upping to 180/55 for the rear.
Thanks in advance for sharing your personal experience.

I really like the michelin tires. I have never used the 2CT, but i have had pilot road 2 and 3's, and a set of worn pilot powers on my bikes and have always been really happy with the tires.

All three of those tires have excellent reputations.

I expect you would be happy with any one of them.

I have a different situation: High speeds and maximum dry traction are not my priority.

I sometimes ride in heavy rain on the freeway and on gravel strewn back roads.

That is why I like the Dunlop D-616 tires that came stock on the Ulysses.

When conditions are bad they are good.

Ive got the Pilot power on my moto guzzi 1100 sport, the pilot road 2 on my S3t and the moto guzzi v11...that's all I can remember for now, have been very happy with them. I think my s1w has shinkos...which is a copy of something else...a little embarrassed to admit that one but the bike came with them from the PO...and they seem to be holding up really well and I don't get any funny feedback or wandering and getting a very even wear...when they go (definitely this season) I will replace them with the Pilot Powers or Pilot Road 2s for sure. by the way...anyone know anything about the shinkos? I suppose admitting that is worth all kinds of spears being thrown...but like I said, they came with the bike and they seem to be good tires....not racing or track time though so really not pushing them to the limit for sure..anyway, not meaning to hijack the thread...so...in my experience I like the road 2s

I too have had two sets of the Pilot Power 2s and 3s. Excellent tires. Ironically, I installed Rosso IIs on both my S1 and my Duc SS, but don't have enough miles on either of them to give you an informed opinion.

I have Dunlop Roadsmarts and Sportmax Qualifiers on my 2 tubers, Mich Pilot Powers on the Guzzi V11 Sport and Mich Pilot Pures on the 998. the 2010 Firebolt is due for tires I have been happy with the Diablo Corsa IIIs but they are not longer available thinking Mich Pilot Power 3s or Pures . Oh forgot Dunlop Q2s on the Vmax. All have served me well.

MIchelin Pilot Road 3 is hands down the best tire I have ever used.

Sticky, Great in weather, long(ish) life, depending on riding style....

If your in the twists they will wear great,

Mostly highway...Long hauls...you will waste 1/2 the tire.

They are the only tire I will mount on my bikes from now on.. till the 4's come out

Motorcycle warehouse has great prices, just got a set for the PMX build, I think less than $300 Shipped

Just picked up a set(120 & 180) of Michelin Pilot Power 2ct for my X1 $225 shipped on eBay from a fairly well known shop. Was a $20 off special I think may still be good.

Regards,
Nels

Thanks for all the feedback. I know the Michelins PP 2CTs have been around much longer but didn't expect such a one sided feedback. The Contis are significantly less expensive - <$200 shipped and get good reviews but I already have Contis and wanted to try something else. The other two are about the same price. It seems that folks who tend to use the entire tire prefer the 2CTs. The Pirellis are supposedly more sticky in the middle and heat up faster. I know at the end its a trade off so I literally did a coin toss and Pirellis won. I'll let you guys know I make out.

I put 5000 miles on a set of PR2s last year and you can barely see any wear at all. Granted it was mostly commuting but hey. I don't ride in the rain so I didn't go for PR3s.

I have straight up original pilot powers on my 2000 lightning. It's a bit early to tell as I just hit about 200 miles on them, but I definitely like them MUCH better than the dunlop sportmax tires that I replaced.

A few years back I put a set of Skinko Ravens on my Suzuki Bandit.

They were great commuter/touring tires. Grip and handling were good but their best attribute was that, even with the power of my Bandit, they lasted a long time.

Now I use Dunlop D-616 tires on my bikes for the reasons I mentioned above but I can't say anything bad about the Shinkos. If you are not a real fast sport rider or a racer, Shinkos are a good tire, especially considering the low price.

All these raves about the Michelins is making me a little nervous now....
So did you guys read bad reviews on the Pirellis or it was other reasons. I'll give my feedback in time but like to hear you.
My quick research on the web seemed to rank the Pirellis higher than the PP2CTs but little below the PR3s.

When I was looking for tires I looked for high tread life for commuting and dual compound since I live in SE Michigan which is mostly flat with straight roads to help counteract chicken strips.

The reviews I read for the PR2s showed awesome tread life (15,000 miles) and great traction to boot.

If you read good reviews for the Pirellis then I'm sure you'll be fine.

On my X1 i prefer the michelin power pure tire. I have burned through 3 sets of the continentals before i stopped using them in favor of the michelin's. I liked the michelin pilot powers on my Zx10r but they lack the traction i am after with that high horsepower. I found i could power drift way to easy with the powers on. I ride aggressively and can ruin a set of michelin power ones in 2 weekends. But i won't use any other tire on that bike. The michelin power 0nes have literally saved my life over 5 times now........Michelin is my tire!!
