I noticed that in some you tube videos that the oil light comes on prior to start up. Like when you turn the key to run, the light appears then turns off. I noticed on my bike that light does not come on. Is this something I should be worried about? All the other lights work on the instrument panel.

Normally the light is grounded thru an oil pressure switch ( don't have a wiring diagram in front of me, but that's standard ). the light is on when there is no oil pressure, like before you start the bike. I'd make sure it works just to have the peace of mind.

Ground the wire out to see if it is just the sensor. Change the bulb before getting into the wiring.

Had a feeling it was a sensor issue. How exactly do I ground the wire? Also, if it is the bulb, how do I gain access to it? I really appreciate the help.

There are four clips on the bake of the instrument panel that hold in the light display, gently (they get brittle) pry those apart then you can pull the light out, there's a rubber boot the bulb fits into if I remember correctly. Just use a continuity tester on the bulbs contacts, if there's continuity your bulb is fine. Clean contacts and reinstall.

IF bulb is okay pull the wire from the oil pressure switch and clean up the contacts, maybe squeeze the connector a bit if it's loose to tighten it up and check for function on the lights.

Pressure sensor is an easily obtainable part, should be relatively inexpensive (cheap) from an auto parts store, if it's given up the ghost.

You've probably already done this, but take a look at where the wire mounts to the oil pressure sensor (front of the engine below the housing where the oil filter mates). I've seen several bikes where the wire is broken. If it is broken, you can replace the factory boot with a ring terminal. The sensor contact has male threads, so a couple of the correct sized nuts can be used to attach the ring terminal to the sensor.

Just ordered a oil pressure sensor from American Sport Bike. Can I ride the bike without this sensor working? Will it damage anything in the motor? Its supposed to be a nice day tomorrow, finally, and i still haven't had a good ride on it yet, after owning it for 3 months.

You ground the wire by removing it from the sending sensor and touching it to the frame. That should make the light glow. If your oil is flowing back into the oil tank when the motor is running (take the cap off and look) you can most likely ride without damaging the engine. If it overheats, shut it down. Take the sensor to a car parts store and get a short-term replacement - cost will be like a gallon or two of fuel.
