Need to remove the rear breather bolt so I can bolt up a new air cleaner but the bolt is making contact with the frame when I try to back it out. FSM is not clear on how to remove. How do I do this?

First thing I'd suggest is that you put a bottle jack under the front of the motor (use some wood so you don't punch the case) and see if the engine will come up in the frame enough to give you clearance. If that works you should prolly inspect your front isolator, motor mount and hardware to make sure it's all still intact.

It was tight on my Y2K Cyclone, but I was able to get the bolt out, back when the bike was only a few years old.

Watch out for the fuel line on the carb, that plastic inlet is bound to be getting brittle so you don't want to snap it off. i was surprised at how easily mine broke off last Fall.

Ok, thanks for that. The bike only has 5k miles but I'll give it a shot. But 'm wondering if we have the same frame since they changed it in 99?

Anyway my first thought was to cut it but I don't want to blow shavings into the top of the motor so I figured I would ask here.

Weird thing too is I can't find mention of this anywhere in old school or tech sections.

I bought the bike new, it should be stock. The FSM refers to the bolt and says "bolt may interfere with frame" (yeah no shit) and then "only remove when absolutely necessary" at the bottom of the air box section (4-20) then refers to the carb removal section (4.2.E) for removal but I cant find any mention of removing the bolt in that section

You could pack it full of grease, then cut off the angled piece, then thread it out.

Reep, I like your solution but when I looked at it again last night I ended up taking bolt cutters to the L and had it off in 10 seconds.

Bolt cutters to cut off a bolt.... seems so obvious now.

Yes, once you break torque on the lock nut with a thin open-end wrench.
