Does anyone have any knowledge on this bike??

I am going by the sticker on the tail fairing.
the seat looks like its an S2"s seat not a typical RSS or RS style

The seller is calling it a westwind but it is in pieces and I'm not too sure, it was not his bike originally he bought it from a friend in boxes...& he doesn't know much about it

PS it has no gas tank. What are the odds of finding one?

VIN is 1B9RS11G9M2133103

Thanks for ANY knowledge, info or history

I have a pic if someone can upload for me

I swear I recall seeing the PMX 1200 moniker somewhere before. I want to say I've seen pics of it somewhere. And unfortunately I cannot recall where.

The rear subframe and VIN definitely say it's an RS.

My presumption is that it is an RS customized by a former owner,

Is that all that's left of the bike? WTF goes through people's heads? Unbelievable.

Without looking up the VIN, I can at least say it's a 5 speed RS1200 (has the footpeg loops on the frame--RSS models don't have them). It's got the original shock which is a good thing. Having the stock exhaust would be nice, though I think the S2 header is the same and an aftermarket Supertrapp would be close enough to stock.

Putting that bike back together correctly will be a real challenge but, it IS saveable. If you don't step up, please offer the information to others on the forum. I could do it. Not sure I need another project but...

Oh yeah, the seat looks just like the stock Corbin on mine, except without the cutaways for the flip-up seat. That AND the clean job on the bodywork suggests it was a factory job.

The seller says all is there in boxes but no fuel tank. Previous owner was a friend of his disassembled it to powder coat the frame & resto it...IDK

That tail doesn't look like anything i've ever seen...

I have no info on the particular bike your looking at but, I found this interesting so I did a little research;

It's a precursor to the S2, known as the RS1200/5 it came after the RR1200. I think it was made from 1989-91. Hand built by the Buell Motor Company Inc. prior to the first big infusion of Harley money and the subsequent renaming to Buell Motorcycle Company.

Here is an article:
http://www.motorcycleclassics.com/motorcycle-revie ws/2006-05-01/buell-rs1200.aspx

And, and, I learned something...

Well, you're mixing up the timeline and models a bit. There were three different Westwind models between the RR1200 and the S2. This one is indeed an RS1200-5. The question arises out of the seat not having the flip-up backrest of the dual-seat Westwind models.

This is what the bodywork on the RS1200 models looked like. I caught this guy trying to vandalize my bike at a local show.

And with the seat installed and backrest flipped up:

The bike in question does not have the cutouts for the flip-up backrest nor the handholds in the side panels. Other than that, the Corbin seat matches exactly, minus the cutouts at the rear.

Greg,
Those were my thoughts exactly...
And the front fairing doesn't look like an RR or RSS.
And the mirrors??
Factory proto?? But it has a vin & title???

Ohh.... where is Court???

The fairing looks right to me. What are you seeing that's wrong?

The mirrors were probably an owner change. The stockers are absolutely worthless for seeing behind you. They do look good, though.

Factory prototype? Probably not. If you read Court and Dave's book, there were some specially made bikes with buyer specified mods. Not hard to do when the bikes were handmade. Nothing there would be that hard to do during creation of the bike.

I'd probably restore it with that bodywork intact. Does it still have the engine, exhaust and other bits? Man, that's taking a chance but, I'm interested if you don't take it.

Yea, I searched the archives here ALL day but did not see anything that looks remotely close to that tail.

Have courts book in my lap Nothing...

All parts are in boxes & bins. No fuel tank

IDK the fairing just doesn't look as flared as all the pics I see.

I am waiting to see if he can get a pic of the bike before he took it apart & some more detailed shots of tail & body work.

What is a PMX??? IDK..

Fairing looks right to me. The RS had a very narrow fairing. I don't see any mirror holes but, it's black...hard to tell.

I think the pmx1200 hd was added by an owner as this wasxa pre harley bike so why would they put HD on it?

If the poster is accurate, then it looks closer to the rss1200. The front "horn" of the seat looks pretty close to your picture. Looks to have a shell instead of the flip up. Possibly the 2 up seat was optional or possibly hidden under the tail. Can't tell for sure, but the back part of the seat in your first picture may look less weathered...

If that is the case then it should be saved.

Nope, not an RSS. It has the passenger footpeg loops. The RSS didn't have ANY provisions for a passenger. Just as 1313 posted above, it's an RS1200-5. There are just some body mods that were likely done at the factory.

Reproduction bodywork (including the tank) is available here. It's not perfect but, better than nothing:

I just caught up with this thread. Definitely looks like a project. From the limited looks of it, I'd agree with Brankin and Greg...and they would certainly be ones I'd trust to know.

Seeing owner mods of a "classic" doesn't surprise me. I have RSS bodywork that was "customized" with Bondo and plywood. Nice and lightweight now. Aaargh!

Keep us posted.

I looked at it yesterday. It's been around here for a long time, used to be on the ledge at Rossmeyer's Beach Street store.

So you gonna' step up on this? At that price, the bike is as good as chopper bait at this point. Those parts are going to end up on Ebay in a month and the engine will be lost in a garage for a chopper that will never get built.

At that price, an S2 would be gone already and parted out quickly.

I sold all of the white RS stuff that was originally on my "S2T'd" 1991 RS1200 I used to have.
A guy from the Chicago area got it. (not 'groundkeeper' that's on here occasionally) for a project. I later saw it up for sale on ebay or some forum, IIRC.
If you need some bodywork for this bike, maybe there could be some research done to find where it all went. Tank was peeling inside, and was broken at the fuel/reserve switches, as usual.
Everything but the front fender was there, that stayed on the bike, painted to match the S2 bodywork. (bike pic still on my profile page)
