Ok, so my 2001 x1 lightning started to just turn over and then die. I cleaned all connections in the fuse box and checked grounds. No problems. I next checked the fuel pressure and had about 10psi. The pump sounded like it still worked so I pulled it out to look at the rest of it.

Found this first thing. No wonder low fuel light didnt work.

The fuel filter looked pretty nasty.

I tested the pump and it worked fine. This led me to the regulator. I pulled it out and it looked like this:

I cleaned a bunch of grime out of it. I think that was the problem.

Now my only problem is this:

How the heck can I fix this? Does anybody have any ideas? I cant seem to get the plastic piece out, so that I can replace wires.
Thanks in advance,
Mike

You can buy a complete pump from fuel-pumps.net for just under $100. Fixing your old one may not be worth the aggravation.

Jeff, that's only the pump, the pump/reg mount is not included, his problem is with the internal wiring harness.
Here's a pic of a pump/reg mount with the pump separated.

If it was mine and I couldn't find another pump/reg mount as a last resort,I'd zip tie a Dixie cup with the bottom cut out around the base and fill with fuel proof epoxy to a level where the exposed wires were covered.

Thanks James, that's a good idea. My other idea was to drill two small holes in the plastic and see if the plastic piece would screw out. It almost looks like it is threaded in.

I have the same problem. Dealer wants $42 for this regulator. I removed the 2 phillips screws and the reg just falls out - no O rings or anything. It seems like all the pressure is just going back into my tank.

..but I hate to spend another $42 to *see if this fixes it* after the long list of items I've already replaced. Its pretty much narrowed down to the reg though at this point.

I haven't found any other sources for the reg, although one post did seem to indicate it was a DODGE part..

Going back out to the garage now to pull the pump assy out , AGAIN..
