Anybody else have an issue with their exhaust header hitting their frame? I knew mine was really close but didn't realize how much rubbing it was doing. I now have a hole in my frame! I guess I'll have to have somebody weld that up. I'll post pictures of it tonight.

I'm running the stock header with a D&D pipe.

Maybe I can open up the D&D a little more so I jam the header farther in? Any suggestions?

You need to check your motor mounts, front and rear. The rear pipe is always in pretty close proximity to the frame, but when the rubber mounts begin to fail, the exhaust will start vibrating against the frame. If someone messed with the engine tie bars, that would do it also, but those shouldn't be touched as they are factory set.

Yep, that looks like a bad motor mount.

Damn to bad you didn't catch that sooner! put a small floor jack under the motor with a piece of wood. Have some one else slowly jack it up and watch the mount(S) Don't lift the bike totally up, just a tiny bit you will see the problem right away.

My stock header did the same thing. Only rubbed with the engine running though.

Just tested the mounts with a jack in a few places, I saw zero movement. I had replaced the exhaust gaskets with the SE ones and these seemed to push the exhaust closer to the frame, maybe I should go back to the stock ones? I can try to play with the tie bar as well.

That's a good point...the empty frame won't weigh down on the mounts nearly as much as the frame plus rider...

Once you figure out your isolator issue and are ready to put the exhaust system back on.
Try fitting exhaust system to the bike, bolt it up, but leave it loose, adjust and tighten the entire system as a single assembly. This will make achieving the desired clearances around the frame an easier affair.

The isolators seem pretty solid. The bike is also quite smooth above 3000 rpm. I am wondering if the previous owner adjusted the tie bars in order to get the breather system for the forcewinder to fit. It is pretty tight as well and i can see where it has made some contact. Can someone post a pic of the clearance of the frame and cooling fins on the front cylinder? Maybe that will give a clue.

Ben

emphaticaly, do not adjust the tie bars
it is stated in the owners and the shop manuals

zombie may have some thing on the exhaust mount thing

the mounts move some and with your weight on the bike they move more than with out it
