mine crapped out - yet again..... I searched the KV, etc., finding 2 'live' part numbers - which is the better part? 74402-95B or 74431-01B [local H-D has 74402-95B in stock for $65] finally, if the very latest part with the 5v improvement is used, are any of the previous voodoo fixes still necessary or helpful? | ||

btw,be sure it isn't just the fuse. riding daylight you wouldn't notice if backlight wasn't working | ||

If you want to play it safe, you can put a 5v regulator on the power lead to the sensor. | ||

hey Fasted, thx - no worries, I've already got everything stripped down awaiting the very latest solution I'm now quite skilled at removing the entire rear bodywork, just to loosen that 1 nut to remove the battery..... that's a great idea about the fuse - it's definitely not that part - this time, anyway (Message edited by firstbuell on January 25, 2013) | ||

here's my inquiry to American Sport Bike: "Al, I'm confident that the part you stock is the very latest, but the weekend's coming BadWeb lists 2 recent 'live' H-D part #s - dealer stocks 74402-95B [$65, no so bad] or will order 74431-01B [if this is 'the one', I'll order it from you ] natch, dealer doesn't know which is the better part - what say you? thanx" news from Al at American Sport Bike [G-d love him!]: "Not better, different….. The 74402-95B (American Sport Bike 17165, $60.80) is the correct part for tube frame models, the 74431-01B (American Sport Bike 17188, $59.99) is the correct one for XB series bikes. The actual sensor appears externally to be identical, but I don’t know for sure that it is. One has a black Deutsch triangular connector, one has a grey Deutsch triangular connector. Will one work in place of the other? Not sure, haven’t tried it. My guess is yes. Does one have an advantage over the other? My guess is no, I’d bet they’re the same part electrically." he the man! | ||

If you already have a 5v fix in there, the additional regulator might not work, as a 5v regulator probably needs more than 5v to work. So choose one or the other I suppose. Check your VR grounds and other grounds also. | ||
