i also see that you still have the older rocker box covers, i would update them to the xb style.

There is the wife. She is all for it. Even helped me bring the engine in on the dolly! As long as no oil hits the carpet or couch I'm in good standing : ) as for the rockers I'm keeping the 3 piece. I know the xb breathes better and is less of a pain in the ass for rocker box leaks. I like the look of the 3 piece. The engine is all fresh top end American Sport Bike pushrod base and American Sport Bike billet motor mount. I have a front end off a 03 xb in my x1 triples with a uly front rim. Rear xb wheel with the appropriate spacers. The only thing I'm contemplating is keep the ddfi or 42 mikuni hsr. I can post Picts on the progress. I like to give back to this community as you all have helped me so much over the past couple years with parts and trouble shooting!

Well, as I wait for the Frame to be Nickel Plated. I mocked up my front end to make sure my new risers from Precision engineering work with my Renthal bar...spent hours poishing my triples... I have blisters from the task.
I also taped off the BUELL letters on the bottom of the forks and shot it with rubberized paint. Its coming together.

Nice, did you swap the x1 rims for what looks like the xb12 rims? If so is it an easy swap that needs little to no mods?

Sold the PM rims to purchase the updated rims. the rear is from a 2009 xb12 and the front is a Ulysses rim unknown year. The forks are from an 03 XB in X1 triples
The front forks from 03 are the same diameter as the X1 triples. If you use the search function on this site there is allot of documentation on this wheel swap.

There is defiantly more then 1 way of doing this swap. I decided to keep the X1 triples. By doing so I'm loosing about an inch on the front

Took a week at the platers. 4 hours of nickle plating. Very happy with this. Although I had a moment and forgot about my removable side plate... That's at the platers now.
Not bad for $800

Its nice when all you need is 1 part to assemble and it finally comes in.
Progress.

I matched up my new tie bars with the rusted grimy ones.thread for thread. Is there a measurement for each tie bar? I searched the manual and haven't found anything. how do you align the frame when you dont have old tie bars to refernce from?

To my knowledge the tie bars come preset from the factory so you should be good. Mine mounted fine.

I'm sure you know, but bolt up the mounting block and swing arm before you attempt to mount the frame to the motor..I know what your thinking, thank you captain obvious!

To my knowledge the tie bars come preset from the factory

Unless something's changed... Back when the tubers were built the distance had to be adjusted when each bike was built. The XB's have fixed length equivalents of the tuber tie bars (NO idea if they would work on a tuber).

To install:
1. attach tie bar to frame end
2. expand/contract overall length to allow bolt to thread into motor/bracket/swingarm mount block
3. attach (torque) bolt from step 2
4. lock jam nuts

There's a mounting convetion that was followed in production, but I don't recall what it was. Basically it was the same for all 3 (or later on 4) tie bars would 'behave' the same - i.e. if you turned one a certain way and it lengthened the tie bar, the same adjustment on the other tie bars would also lengthen them. Hopefully that's clear. If not, you could always reference another tuber. There's a mark on one end near the jam nut that indicates the threading on that end is different than the other.

Hope this helps more than confuses,

I mounted the swing arm block with new F911 bolts. The left isolator and then I installed the Frame. Swing arm not installed. Still waiting for my side plate from the platers. I know you should install it first. I don't see why it would make a difference mounting the swing arm before or after frame install.

Just waiting on that side plate then swing arm and rear wheel install
