So here is my problem. 1999 buell x1, seems like I have an intake leak. RPM hangs at 2,000 on deceleration if the idle is adjusted above 1,000 rpm. When I spray carb start on the intake the rpm will drop if I spray long enough it will die completely. I have pulled the intake 15 times already trying different things. New injector o-rings, new buell intake seals, James blue intake seals, hylomar on the seals, everything I can think of to stop this leak. No luck... I'm getting frustrated. If I lower the idle below 1,000 rpm the hang up goes away, but I know this is not the fix for the problem. Also when the engine is cold if the rpm is set low the bike will randomly stutter/ hiccup and die at lights.

Other things I have done:

New throttle body with new tps sensor
TPS reset multiple times
new exhaust gaskets
new intake seals
new injector o-rings
New lambda probe

My AFV is about 112-118

Any ideas????? anything else that would cause the idle to hang at 2k rpm?

I have ordered a new intake manifold just in case mine has some kind of pin hole leak but I had replaced my intake seals earlier in the year that cured my problem but I had somebody else re-build my top end and now I cant get this thing sealed up right.

I have spent the past month trying to sort it out reading all the forum posts and trying everything, I have broken down and i'm asking for help!

Meh, your AFV is not really out of the ballpark. I would expect something in the 130 or higher area if you had a leak. All that comes to mind is possibly the intake manifold/throttle body gasket. Some weird casting flaw or a poorly machined surface, maybe, but not very likely ....

Have you checked your ignition timing? You seem to have covered everything else that comes to mind.

How would I explain the rpm drop and sputter when I spray carb start? I pulled the CPS out and the insalation glue was gummy and some dripping. I ordered a new CPS to replace it. Ignition timing looks like it has never been messed with.

I figured i'd check the CPS as i am running out of ideas but I didnt think the timing being off would make the RPM hang up at 2k.

my bike used to do that, then all i did was a tps PROPER tps reset when warm and it all went away, and yeah what JIM2 said.

Checked and re-cehcked cables multiple times. I rode the bike for 15 minutes, 200c and backed out the throttle to 0% set tps and set it to 5.5. The bike idles at under 1,000 rpm. To get the bike to idle at 1,100 rpm the tp is 7.3%.

Intake leak will not raise AFV to 130, bad injector might. 112 to 118 means you have lean spot in learned fuel. You are spraying so none can go in air cleaner? Is it front and rear both leaking? 5.5 to 7.3 to raise 100 rpm?

I can't tell which is leaking or both are leaking... I tried best I could to cover the intake up. If I set the AFV to 100 the bike runs noticeably worse at idle. 5.5 makes the bike idle at roughly 800 rpm and 7.3 gets me 1,100 rpm. Thanks

Try propane (small cans) with the nozzle pointed at the intake manifold gaps front and rear.
Going by only the AFV is meaningless if your leak is in the front seal. But more importantly doing the intake seal R&R 15 times must be a record. My 00' x1 just ticked over 21K miles still on the OEM seals.

OK so I got the AFV down to 100% but i am still having the problem. Idle hangs up. I did notice in EMC spy that the tps percentage and degree will randomly jump around .4 sometimes at rest and other times with throttle being applied. I replaced the tps sensor with a new one and still does it. I can also make it happen off the throttle body by moving it by hand. I ASSUME this is not normal... any ideas?
