Hi, anyone of you all know of anyone in the general nola area willing to help me get my old buell to turn over?

I bought it in boxes, have reassembled it and am now to the point of trying to start it and get nothing except a faint click form the relay.

i just want to be sure everything is plugged in properly and need some help toubleshooting what could be the matter. i have the service manual and have triple checked that i have not missed anything.

If you have clicking,you are most of the way there. As Brinnutz says, check the battery first. Then battery cable connections clean and tight.

And check the B.R.A.N. Should be someone in your area willing to help.

Yeah I've checked the battery, besides it being brand new, I swapped the battery into another bike just to make sure. Also all connections are tight and not corroded. I also tried swapping the relays, no dice. I know it has a sidestand safety switch plugged inroght now, but how about neutral or clutch switches I could disable to rule out the possibility they're bad? Might as we disable the kickstand switch too. I don't have the left side (lights/horn) switches installed, anything there that could disable a start? Also when i at the relay clicks its very faint, but feel-able when held.

try pulling the relays and cleaning the contacts and add some dielectric grease to the connections.

Sounds to me like the starter relay is hoooped...Try a new one or jump from battery to soleniod to see if it turns over..Those relays are famous for internal corosion and not making good enough contact.

Swapped in new relays, now i get nothing, swapped old ones back in and get faint click again. I think something isn't routed correctly.

jump the starter to make sure it works and go backwards from there, id pull the plugs first to make it turn over easier.
If its a safety switch your relays wont even click but id by-pass those anyway.

I bypassed the side stand switch and now the new relay audibly clicks when I turn on the key, still no turn over. Is there a clutch switch too?

Bypassed the clutch switch, now it has a nice click when the start button is pressed but stil no turn over. Yes, the plugs are out, yes I put it in gear and made sure it was capable of turning over. How about the neutral switch? I'm not getting the indicator light regardless if it's in gear or out, also switched bulbs to make sure it wasnt that.

Chassis to tear block ground was hand tight (facepalm)

So now neutral light is on, starter clicks but no turnover, it's acting like the battery is low so I'll swap it with another battery I know is good.

Sorry for the bad grammar, out in the garage sending these messages from my phone is giving men's few fits in itself.

Anyways, still no luck. It's in neutral, I can hear the starter gear move/click as well as the relay. Tried a different battery, even tried jumping it off my jeep, still just a click. Any ideas?

I'd try touching a heavy gauge hot wire to the starter motor's terminal thus bypassing the solenoid just to see if the motor itself spins.

If it sparks but doesn't spin then the motor may be jammed or shorted out.

If it does nothing then the motor's brushes may be worn or burned out.

If it does spin then troubleshoot back to the solenoid, wires to the relay, relay, etc.

Are the spark plugs in it? Have you confirmed that the motor rotates freely with out the plugs?

@kc, yes, I said that already.

I jumped from battery pos to starter pos bypassing the solenoid and the starter spins as it should, so the problem has to be a connection or sown thing with the solenoid

Seems like the solenoid is not moving the starter gear. Anything suggestions? Would a push button solenoid cap bypass whatever is causing the solenoid to not move the gear since it seems like it makes manual contact and movement of the plunger at the same time. Thoughts? I was thinking of doing that anyways as well as relocating the key and making a tether kill switch to make it as confusing as possible to any would be theifs.

my time is up for the day in the garage, but what are the odds i messed up the solenoid terminal connection? i distinctly recall putting the wrong nut on it first go-round and it spun on itself, thankfully i have a set of cone-wrenches for bicycles and was able to hold the larger nut steady to back the smaller connection nut off and put the right one on. i took off the solenoid cover, but had to leave to go pick up my kids before i could peek in with a flashlight and see if there was a bad connection.

Dittos to Onespeedpaul. You can also take the 'doghouse' off the back of the solenoid/switch housing (with battery disconnected) and manually push the pinion out to the flywheel. If you had a buddy rock the bike in gear you'd have a good chance of meshing the gears. Worked on Industrial Denso starters for years, they're all the same inside except for size

I messed up the contact inside the solenoid, removed it straightened it back out reinstalled and it now turns over, also checked spark, all good there too! Battery ran out of juice now. I understand deka batteries are good, any recommendation which size best suited? Thanks for all your help and encouragement!!

we now have a runner!! possibly need a new battery and to finish off loctiting and torquing everything down...
