Well I think I need to replace my header gaskets, I've got a ticking coming from the bike and I've notice some smoke in front of my headlights at night. The exhaust on the bike before had some crappy homemade mount so I'm sure it wiggled around and damaged the gaskets
(99 m2 with 9500 miles). Anyways, I can't seem to find them online anywhere, except some on eBay from American torque. Does anyone have a part number or link for them?

Also, can they be replaced without removing the muffler and clamp from the header or do I need to pull it all off?

Thanks,
Spencer

thats not a superseded PN, just a different style gasket. The PN I provided is more than adequate as it is what originally came on your bike. The other PN is more for using aftermarket headers but can be used with the stock header.

17048-98 is the Screamin' Eagle gasket, much better than stock oem.

better? not really.
much better? no.

if it was much better it would be a superseded part and the other PN would be obsolete.

not a pissing contest, just setting the facts strait. I have used both and IMO feel the stocks seal better for a stock header.

I don't remember part #s, but the THIN ( Screamin Eagle ) gasket has let me down more than once this summer, so I went back to the THICK gasket. I've had the exhaust off my M2 at least six times since march. Now that I'm good at it I think I'm done working on it : )

Thanks for all the help guys, got my gaskets on the way.

Im gonna be pulling my motor out in a little over a month, and my bike only gets ridden about 20-30 miles a week, would it hurt to wait to swap the gaskets or should I just go ahead and do it?

thanks,
spencer

Replace them now and replace them again when you put the motor back in. They are too cheap of a part to cheap out and reuse and have issues with it.

The American Sport Bike site both sells them, and also has a bit of the rationale for which one to use when. Also about half the price of McGuire HD in Walnut Creek. I order a pair about any time I'm getting something from American Sport Bike.
