Not that I have a speedometer anymore... but somewhere around 30,000 miles and 15 years later... Me belt broke.

Just got done tweakin the carb a bit more and rebuilding my HID setup... Snap. Right as I clicked into first gear. Didn't even get time to let the clutch out. Shame. I was very confused why the bike wouldn't move either. LoL. Kept rocking it back and forth, trying switch gears and what not...

Guess this will finally force my hand into finishing my long awaiting swing arm project as well as putting in the newer style isolators.

Le Sigh... to the hangar of shame it goes.

Reinforced swingarm or rear PM wheel anyone?

Quite the collection there...

The belt on my sportster broke after 17 years and about 65k miles. I blame it on the rounded dogs on my first gear causing it to slip under load (96hp and 101 tq didn't help either...).

Is there any way to see signs of wear on the belt before it breaks? Be nice not to be in the middle of nowhere when this happens.

I had just inspected my belt 2 weeks ago when I replaced my front sprocket. No signs of abuse. The rubber has been work/age hardened since i've owned the bike though. I have a feeling since its really the aramid cords inside, they just go when they go.

My first X1 belt went at approx 25000 miles ........ 12 miles after I inspected it and remarked how it looked just as good as it did 5 years previous :-) ............... that is the only downside to a belt .....they give no warning :-)

The newer XB replacement belts are much better made compared with the stock Sportster belts. They look like they can go forever...

I'll be buying from dennis kirk. I won a second $150 gift card from them... hah.

I love their review sweepstakes.
