The guy I got my bike from replaced the top triple tree on my 2001 x1 so I don't have anywhere to re mount the gauges. The only top triple tree I can find is for a 2000 m2 so I was wondering if they were interchangeable.

No, because the X1 is 54mm and the M2 is 43mm for the size of the tubes.
