I would like to put EFI on my heavily modified M2. I wonder if anybody on here has ever done that, and if anybody would be into trading X1 EFI equipment for M2 carburetion.

I have never heard of anyone ADDING injection.
It's a long uphill battle if you think about it:
intake air temp sensor
engine temp sensor in rear head
oxygen sensor+header with a place for it to live
fuel tank with pump
and of course, the obvious ECU and throttle body.

Parts alone would cost heavy!
I suggest you stick with a carb.

Stick with a carb or just get an X1.

Maybe switch to Mikuni? Or Woods carburetor?

The bike and motor are heavily modified including an S&S stroker/big bore kit and ported heads. I'm currently running A 44 mm cv, I have tried several different carburetors and I'm not happy with any of them. If they flow enough air, they don't pull fuel well, if they pull fuel, they don't breathe as well as they should.

I understand that this isn't a typical mod but i was just wondering if anybody had tried it. Also because so many people talk about putting a carburetor on the EFI bike I was hoping somebody had parts to sell or trade.

Thanks

What parts exactly are you looking for? I know what all is involved but instead of replacing the tank with the EFI S3 you could use an external pump.

I probably have everything from a blown 99 S3. Make a list of what you need and make me an offer and we can go from there.

It's easier to install a fuel pump in a M2 tank than a petcock in a S3 tank. Your real issue will be the O2 sensor bung.

I anticipate purchasing items like throttle body, injectors, harness, ecu, o2sensor, remote fuel pump, intake and exhaust manifolds, etc.

I'm more concerned with the cam and crank encoders, does the m2 have the right trigger wheels? I'm worried about the temp sensor in the rear head, can I use te m2 head? What about the harness, will the m2 control, instrumentation, and lighting harness work with the x1 or s3 main harness?

Thanks!

TKW...

if you dont mind a little experimenting before spending the effort to go to EFI, I recomment trying a Mikini carburator from a jetski.

I garuntee you they can flow enough, and dump enough fuel...

The rear head will work fine with the temp sensor. Note the location on a EFI head and drill & tap the mounting hole. I would keep the M2 wiring harness and run new wires to the head sensor, air temp sensor, single fire coil, TPS, and check engine/low fuel lights. You can add dash lights without having to replace the tachometer.

The color code on the new module's wires will match your present unit, but there will be additional wires.

I have a good friend here in Australia. he has two Buell Tube frame Bikes one Carb one EFI he wants to convert the EFI to a carb. but would prefer a silver fuel tank, as does not want to have to paint it.
if you are interested i could put you in contact with him.

Big inch bike will need upgraded fuel pressure regulator. FI bikes have different trigger wheel. Buell FI not a great system; very basic. Go with 45mikuni. S&S Caribs sucked.
