What do you guys with the thunderbolt or other black heads use to detail them? I cleaned my bike real good and they just look gray and dull now. Any suggestions? Thanks, Spencer | ||

take them off... re powder coat them. Or try spraying some back to black on them. | ||

Try S-100 cleaner. Age and heat are the enemy, so you may have to re-coat them... | ||

Clean them and then just spray them with silicon spray whilst they are cold ....they will come up like new. | ||

S100 is crap do not use it! All the dirt and dust and bits of leaves and everything sticks to that shit. I will never use that bs again.....It did do the job of making the black look great but at the cost of everything sticking to it. no thanks. | ||

I use "no-wipe" tire cleaner on those parts (when engine cold), spray on wait a few minutes & hose off... | ||

I have been using the s100 on my Harleys since 2000 and never had issues with anything sticking to it. Just a light spray does the job. | ||

I use armor all on all the crinkle black engine parts. It's cheap, it gets rid of that brown tinge, and it lasts through a couple of washings. | ||

Most of the expensive detailing/cleaning sprays are just silicone spray in expensive packaging  ........... just buy and try a can of plain silicone spray as used in industry etc as a lubricant .....it works just as well as S100 at a fraction of the price. | ||

I use tire foam. About 10 minutes before washing put a light coat of tire foam on there. It'll last at least a wash or two and keeps all the black, well, black.  | ||

When I first saw this, I thought it was a dermatology problem, and was going to say something like Josh did. Pro-Active, or whatever that stuff is called, is 'sposed to work great. For your motor: I've used some spray on stuff called "Pig Spit" and it works really well. It comes in a much larger can than the S100 product, and goes a long way. One can lasts me years. Of course, I've discovered that the bikes will run almost as well filthy as clean and shiny, so that may have something to do with the longevity of my can of Pig Spit. I'm thinking it's just re-labelled silicone spray, like Kevin mentioned. | ||

WD-40 works awesome then wipe off the excess residue and it will look great. Also works on bleached black plastics. I re-sell Bike parts on ebay and that's what we use - makes em look new. sometimes it takes a couple of coats. | ||

I have a 2003 FXSTB/I, Harley Night Train, with the blacked out engine and trans. Pig Spit works great at keeping the different black finishes on the heads and trans looking practically new. Wash your bike, dry it off...I use my leaf blower for most of the water, then just spray on the Pig Spit and let it dry before riding. Keeps things looking great, and lasts for months, and through many washes. WD-40 will also help, but it doesn't last very long....nothing like the Pig Spit anyway. Get the Pig Spit at any Harley dealer...a bit expensive at about $15 bucks a bottle, but does a great job with no hassles. |
