I was doing a visual inspection of my 1999 X1 as I do everyday before I ride it and I noticed that my headlight glass has been struck by a rock and now has a hole in it.

I was wondering what options I have for a conversion to something not stock. I have a 80w/100w bulb in the light I have now and I need that much brightness if not more.

I like the look of the duals on the xb. I dont have any place to do any serious fab work so thats my only road block.

What's out there that is not too difficult of a conversion?

any options you can conceive and can construct. Only limited by your creativity and talent.

Wiring isnt a problem, that's easy. I would like to do the xb conversion but I don't know what all is involved. Does anyone know a link to a thread that has a step by step for this?

My only limitation like I said is I very limited fab tools an can only do something simple as far as that goes.

When I stripped my X1 to powdercoat it flat black, I did a dual headlight conversion.
I bought a black dual headlight kit on a website, fabricated 2 small brackets to fit the new Lightning windscreen, spliced in the stock wiring and it works like a charm. I added a DTM HID kit this summer.

also... no use of the word "Fabrication" in this thread.. LoL.

That word used to mean something before OCC came on TV.

UFO "Twins."

The stock lights suck but that's easily rectified.

x1_rider: what web site did you get those from? Were they a direct bolt on with no fab work (minus the fly screen)?

right here

They fit perfectly with the stock bracket. I had to remove a bit of plastic on the turn signal stalks and move them to another hole in the bracket to make them fit.
I did some cutting/drilling/welding to make the windscreen brackets but you could probably go with a thinner gauge metal and just bend them.

I always thought the Moto Guzzi Breva 1100 headlight would look neat on my M2 and still let me use my X1 windscreen.

Ya, that's also a vary nice option Barrick. Do you know this from experience Foximus? It looks a lot like the one from Harley at a fraction of the price and I know the Harley lights are SUPER bright.

Ive done lots of research into LED's. Trust me. That will look like a flashlight on the road.

There is one main company that makes (read: ACTUALLY PRODUCES) the superbright, headlight usable LED's, a company in germany. When I had my tail light built... each LED was $16 each. Thats ONE individual LED with a cathode and anode. My taillight is 72 volts, and uses 5.6 amps.. It uses does this with 21 LEDs.

Trust me. 3 LEDs, in a non focusing simple parabolic reflector... for under $300... no way.

The one's HD produces uses a decent amount of LED's in behind their glass. And of coarse, to get an LED very bright, you must focus it fairly sharp... the rest is just wash out light.

A proper HID setup will blow away any LED setup in cost, amperage, and overall size.

So how good are those Dominators, compared to stock? I'm looking at those to possibly replace my Uly headlights, anything has to be better than stock XB lights but I can't seem to find any reviews on the Dominators.

I've looked into these too:

Just for your information, I ended up cutting the connector from the stock headlight and spliced it into the Dominator harness and it worked well.
