ok so when checking timing, what way is advanced timing?? counterclockwise or clockwise?? | ||

The timing mark in the rear of the timing plug hole is fast, in the front of the timing plug hole it is slow ... (Message edited by buellistic on September 13, 2012) | ||

If you're adjusting the pickup plate, turning it counter-clock will advance; clockwise will retard. Engine spins clockwise when viewed from that side; spin with crank rotation, you retard; spin against, you advance. | ||

Ratbuell you have that turned around the cam is driven by the crank so turns counter clock wise and you turn the plate clockwise to advance the time and counter clockwise to retard the timing. I hope this explains it plainly | ||

Yep, you're right. Been a while since I was in one, sorry. Don't the plates have + and - on them along with the degree marks? Or am I imagining, since its been so long? | ||

There are lines that you may call degree lines, Rat I don't remember seeing +/- | ||

If you have a STOCK ENGINE, it will run much better with the timing mark set just coming into the timing plug hole ... | ||

Just to clarify the timing mark I is coming form the rear with the wheel being turned forward, So according to Buellistic STOCK ENGINE runs better with a slight advance | ||

Also timing is on the compression stroke so remove spark plugs turn wheel forward while placing wet finger on top of the front spark hole you should feel the pressure blow by (Message edited by wack01 on September 15, 2012) | ||

When "i" check my timing the front rocker arm cover gets removed, "BUT" that is just the way "i" do it ... |
