the lighter all your valve train components are they faster you can safely rev without any risk of floating valves.

Weight your OEM PUSH RODS, then ask the aftermarket suppliers how much theirs weight !!!

Stay with the lightest(which will be the OEM ONES) !!!

I've had the OEM units eat their chrome from the bores.

If you have a PARTS BOOK you can go to the STEALERSHIP and have the PARTS PERSON compare the part numbers which are probably the same because they do not make a different valve train for every EVO SPORTSTER ENGINES ...

I run the stock push rods in my motor.

Other than those, the cases, the crank and rods my engine is that of an XB9.

As far as lifters go, I run the Revolution Performance lifters. (See profile).

Jim's Hydrosolid lifters are popular for performance builds. They are theoretically better for high RPM use. Adjustable pushrods and collapsible tubes are required. I'd recommend Rivera Taperlites. I've had S&S "Quickie" pushrods fail.

The stock pushrods and lifters do work fine. An OEM set of replacement lifters would be the most economical choice and the most hassle-free to install.

The '99 prior lifters as on my Buell are not as durable as the '00 later, though they were upgraded by H-D at some point with the later-style guts.

The OEM lifters were made by Hi-Lift. They had major quality problems in the 90's and the factory replaced them with, I think Delphi, I can't quite recall. That was about the timing Rick_a mentioned (2000ish). The new lifters were of much better quality. So the long and short of it is that 'current' oem lifters would be of higher quality than what came on the early tube framers, even though they are considered 'stock oem units'.

Best thing about H-D part numbers is you can just look at the part number and tell how many times a part has been up-dated, "BUT" no so with some of the BUELLschitte part numbers ...

Just ask Rick_a and he will verify this !!!

Sometimes the supersession upgrades a historically flawed part, and sometimes it's a cheaper supplier and/or a serious downgrade. One never knows, sometimes.

Hydrosolid lifters can give you more at the top end, but you need adjustable pushrods. Thunder Valley use to make hydrosolids as well as JIMS.JIMS also makes other good lifter options. I have a set of Powerglides yet to install.

I run stock pushrods with Revolution Performances Hydro Rev lifters no problems.

Why do you need adjustable?

I don't know about the Revolution lifters, but the V-Thunders I have require adjustable pushrods. However, I agree non-adjustables should be lighter and many people installing them are taking a step back in performance if they are not necessary.

Some lifters run limited travel so adjustable pushrods are required to get the pushrod length within the proper range. The idea is to essentially behave like a solid lifter at high rpm yet retain the properties of a hydraulic lifter at low to mid rpm's.

When i had my motor upgraded i had custom length push-rods made for my specs and cams. So they and the smaller diameter valves would spin up faster and be able to maintain high rpm safer than the stock junk! I am also running single beehive XB valve springs to eliminate high rpm valve flutter. It's been great for years now!!
