I would need at least a quarter inch off and by then the eye would need to be threaded farther up...I think. I don't think it's an option, I have thought about it.

Ok, so I got her hanging right now and no weight on the rear.

Penske measured in at 14.75".

I noticed that my rear spring is a Hyperco 7 x 500 lbs. I do not know if that is correct for what it is. When I had this shock built I had them spring it for a 210 lb rider and told them the weight of my wife as she would occasionally be riding as well.

Checking Traxxion Dynamics website they recommend a 7 x 475 for the X1. Now, I wonder if that is just too soft.

Ok, so...I finally just tried measuring sag by myself and I came up with 2.25" so this may be the whole problem in itself. I'm not sure I was even given the tool to tight the spring collar, so that's another store. =(

Using a T27 Torx driver, I tightened the preload all the way down to here:

No way to know as of now but that puts my sag just under 1". I would wonder if either of you guys have set this either?

I did adjust my sag to about 1".

My eyelet to eyelet length of my shock, all the way in on the rear, is 15.5"

When the spring is adjusted for sag, it does not change the eyelet to eyelet length.

Let me go check and I'll tell you what the length is after setting the sag.

15.5" is with the weight of the bike on it. With the rear suspended the shock was 14.75" matching the length of the shock sitting in the box that is a NIB stocker.

Just got back, with the bike on the rear stand, just as it was at the 15.5", it now sits on rear stand at just over 14.75" so setting sag did change this. Odd, guess I will see how she handles now with this change (that should have been done first). Bonehead move on my part for never setting it I guess.

I'll either scan or post a photo of the page from the manual in a bit. mmk?

Also, I haven't had it off of the stand to see how she sits now but with the shock now measuring 14.75" after setting the proper spring preload I believe she'll be sitting a tad higher now.

Marc,

Here you are sir:

And, here she is. Man, that pic really shows how much bigger the XB jugs are, eh?

Now I just need to adjust the compression and rebound and should be good. Don't ask me why I thought it would be good from the factory...When I sit on it now, the ass end hardly budges.

Dave,

Thank you, lots of work...And, it's not done yet (I doubt it ever will be, haha). I have a lot left to do to it.

Hey Marc,

I have also heard of setting the sag a bit differently but I am not sure I know the equation to figure out the difference value needed.

Setting sag can also be done without suspending the rear of the bike and using the static weight of the bike. But, I don't know what the distance should be with the Penske, I have heard 10-15mm but that was my racer bud on his YAMaHa.
I know mine was WAY to much now. Hopefully I'll take her out tonight and see how she feels.

Thanks a Bunch!!!... Hopefully i have some time this weekend to dive into this! As always, beautiful M2-

I know i asked you this before, but how do you like the 9 pistons and jugs? I keep debating about doing it....

But Im also thinking about taking some time off from modding my X1 and buying an XB and modding that.. lol

I have not had it dyno'd since it's install. But, I like it.

I think I would go with the 12 pistons next go around though, not sure why, but I guess we'll see how long 12:1 compression lasts on this old bottom end eh?

You know the jugs are the same between the two right? The only "major" difference between the XB12 and XB9 engine is the stroke and piston shape. Same bore, just the 9 has a shorter stroke. Same heads as well.

If you also don't now this, the mounts are MUCH more beefier on the XB heads then the Thunderstorms. More material around it making it less prone to breaking like the tuber heads do when a bolt snaps.

thanks for the info.

I have a set of XB12 jugs and pistons sitting on the shelf already. What difference would i see with XB12 pistons over my stock X1 pistons? Any idea?

Well, the heads are better flowing so that is most of your performance. I think I remember either 96 or 100rwhp someone said ( I think it was Spiderman).

Overall XB heads are way better than the Thunderstorms.

Gorgeous.

I should get tires so I can put my M2(not)L on the road again. Got rid of the L suspension (X1 forks, standard rear shock), need to get the black fender painted gray and get tires on it...and insurance...and tags...hmmmm.....

I wonder if I will be able to run the rear hugger now?!?!?!?

I forgot about that until I just looked at the pic again.

I have a CF hugger to put on, to match the front CF S2 fender along with a bunch of other CF bits that I have held off on putting on due to not being able to put the hugger one.
Will try with the stock hugger first so I don't goon up the CF, obviously.
