So this will be the first time i have ever removed my headers. It's getting a new exhaust and a small crack welded. Are the gasket/seals from the headers to cylinders ok to reuse? They only have about 3k on them. Also i know i heard some people say there is a way in which the headers wiggle and fit on and its kind of a puzzle. True? I just dont want any surprises come saturday. If i need new seals and recommendations/ part numbers?? Thanks! | ||

Do not reuse the gaskets and tighten all of the bolts evenly once you have seated the header. | ||

I have buellistic's exhaust 101, he gives the part number for the gaskets but says there are better/differnt for 99 and up but doesn't give the number lol | ||

get the screamin eagle exhaust gaskets, smaller and fit into the hole easier | ||

What type of exhaust are you getting?? Are you doing the whole system or just a slip on? The screaming eagle ones are a lot thinner and if you down rev a lot they will blow out easier. The factory ones are thick and work well for the factory header but not on after market headers. I would suggest getting a D&D system because you don't have to remove the chin spoiler or any other parts to remove the exhaust system. it comes apart into 4 pieces. | ||

The headers that are on there now are going to be reused. They look factory but because my bike is carbed these headers do not have o2 sensor ports. Im having an exhaust added from the headers to the back like factory but with 2 outlets one on each side. I dont have the chin spoiler on so no worries. Also adding bracket and support. Mine has broken 2 times already in a year. This is the last fix im doing it right this time. | ||

Be sure to properly torque the bolts on re assembly, it is important. Take LOTS of pictures, LOTS. You have a shop manual i hope. Lots of pretty pictures to go along with the word things... You will need a customized allen wrench to get the intake manifold off. Takes some creative grinding, not to bad tho. | ||

Psykick im not sure what youre talking about. Kilroy, no i do not have the updated y bracket been trying to get one but cant find one. I am going to fab my own bracket. Right now there is nothing at all, which is my exhaust problem i am fixing this saturday. | ||

ya americansportibke has them...for $140 lol, ill take my chances and try to come up with something on my own. Hell if i had 1 i could model it and 3d print them in stainless steel at work. for 1/3 of the price, probably around 60 is a good guess. | ||

The American Sport Bike kit for the updated hanger is the front Y-mount, the regulator bracket to relocate the voltage regulator and the rear stock muffler mount, plus hardware. Yeah it's pricey. The kit is pricey wherever you buy it. I don't know why they bundle the rear bracket with the kit. The rear bracket is about $60 by itself and most of us don't need that. Al is not jacking up the price he is just selling the Buell factory kit. However, you can locate the Y-hanger and the regulator bracket if you look around and have the part numbers. I just got those for $63 which includes spacer and other hardware. | ||

i never thought Al was jacking up the price, just saying its expensive lol. I have been looking for a while now and someday ill find one but atm i need to fix this exhaust so. | ||

I don't have the Y bracket either, I just made a new insert for it out of a polyurethane shock bushing, been working great, haven't messed with my exhaust in over a year, which is saying a lot considering that was the bulk of my problems when I first got the bike. |
