Just a little background info, 2000 x1 with NRHS 1250 kit along with their stage two heads, crossroads intake, force exhaust, and Buell race ecm. Now for the problem, it runs great for about 30 minutes and the the engine heat is unbearable. The amount of heat coming off the rear cylinder exhaust just burns the heck outta my leg to the point where i have to angle my leg out to get away from it and draw fresh air in. also during stop and go traffic it idols so rough like im revving it, RPMs are so sporadic they go from about 1200 to 2000 without my hand even on the throttle. Just at a loss for what could be the problem i had a tps reset done thinking that would fix the idol but it made no difference. Really hoping to get it all figured out with some help here its a nasty bike when its at 100%.  | ||

Try running with your O2 sensor unplugged (after resetting the AFV to 100%). I had similar problems with my Force exhaust. Possibly due to the pipe's properties, it seems to screw up the O2 sensor and it was leaning my bike like crazy (very white spark plugs too). Let us know how it works for you. | ||

RPMs are so sporadic they go from about 1200 to 2000 without my hand even on the throttle When the bike overheats the ETS triggers the ECM to add more fuel to protect the engine.Additional fuel=more RPM. For the overheating. Timing Oil Fuel I would check the ignition timing. Make sure oil is circulating. lift the lid and have a look. Don't use Ethanol fuel EcmSpy and the cable is an important aide. | ||

Just my experience, but when I have a 'wandering' RPM at idle, it is usually the result of an intake leak. If the idle 'hangs' at about 2k RPM when you close the throttle, you may want to replace the seals, as part of the repair. In addition to the suggestions above. Hope this helps, Dave. | ||

+1 on intake seals. Try spraying some carb cleaner or ether around the intake gaskets while the bike is idling. If it revs up, that's where your leak is. (I like using brake cleaner to test, but DO NOT get it on any painted surface) | ||

+2 An intake leak would also make it run lean/hot. I'd start there. | ||

My idle used to wander like that in traffic due to overheating. I found that reducing the idle speed to just under 1000 when warmed up was enough to keep it from doing that. Also didn't vibrate as much at lights. As for the heat output of the engine I can only suggest riding pants as a solution for the radiant heat. All of the times I have taken a ride with jeans on, I have been shocked by how much heat these things put out. |
