It's about time for new tires on my S1W. I've been shopping around and found that almost all performance tires are within a few dollars of each other. So that leads me to the question of...what's the best tire?

Here's what I'm looking for (in order of importance):
1) Performance (mostly dry weather, on the road)
2) Performance (for the few upcoming track days)
3) Durability/Longevity
4) Price (like I said, only about $30/pair difference from least to most)

These are the tires I'm considering (in alpha order):

Avon Azaro $228 w/shipping
Dunlop D208ZR $211 w/shipping
Metzler M-1 $211 w/shipping
Pirelli Diablo $248 w/shipping

ive got the 208s, and i am not terribly impressed. these tires have an incredibly rounded profile for faster turn in, but they just dont feel as stable at farther lean angles. i dont know anything about the metz or the pirellis, except that the xbs love them, which really shouldnt affect your decision cause the nature of the beast is entirely different. i have tried the avons, and loved them, would have stuck with them (pun intended) but got in a hurry and went with dunlops this last change instead. another you might want to keep in mind is the bridgestone battle axe 014 or 010. my buddy has them on his gsxr, again, different beast, but the compound is good and sticky and they are lasting fairly well. on discountmotorcycletire.com they claim that the avons are their most raved about tire.

i would say pick the one that looks the coolest, or you like the write up on the most, and try it. half the fun is trying new tires and models, and its tough to go wrong with that group of tires you have posted. models/compounds/designs change so often, its tough to pick one and just stick to it forever anyway, might as well shop around and experiment.

Been running Avons ever since I wore out the first set of tires on mine. Just make sure you run a high enough tire pressure. Avon recommends 42 psi in its Azaro models/ per the Avon rep at Bike Week.

Lake,
I've got the Bridgestone Battlax BT 010's on my S1. They give good grip, and so far they seem to be wearing well.

I just trashed a dunlop in less than 4000 miles, completely wore out, busted belting, zero tread and a major puncture stranding in the middle of nowhere. All that w/ no hot-rodding, peeling-out or any other radical treatment. For a $300 tire it was a POS.

4000miles on a rear Dunlop 208 is pretty good.
The M1 ought to get you a little more life.
Remember (generally) the stickier they are, the less life they have.

I'm with Timbo on this, got the Bridgestone 010's and the bike is predictable and very confidence inspiring.
