I picked up a used 42 carb. and I need a starting point on the jets...etc. It's going on a 2K M2 w/ race exhaust,A/C,X1 cams etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think the Mikuni comes stock with a 160 main, which is standard jetting for a stock Harley motor. You are at sea level - I would try about a 170 main, needle in the middle and work from there

I left the factory one in there. If the best idle you can get is with less than one turn on the idle screw, go up a size. If you go more than 2 1/2 turns out and your idle doesn't slow, you need a smaller one.

Thanks Tom, It has a 20 SJ in it. It's a used carb so don't know if that's stock.Don't want to pull the carb anymore than necessary.

Jim2, Thanks for the heads up on Craigs List, looks like a good deal. But I've already down loaded the stuff from Mikuni(thanks Tom)
I did learn something interesting,The CV choke will fit the Mik. carb., but it doesn't seal according to Mikuni.(have one on order)
Now if Tom would just tell me what SJ he's using and save this"Old Man" a lot of extra work, he would be very grateful.LOL

If the tuning manual says what comes in it from the factory , that is what I have in mine. Do the idle screw adjustment process I mentioned earlier to see if you need to change it

Take those numbers and change them to inches and would be about right for me.

I've tuned a lot of bikes. Wouldn't be surprised if you ended up at 160/17.5. Good luck.

Tom & Frank, a little up date: Carb. is on and bike runs good with a 170/20 1 1/2 turns. Haven't done a plug check yet, but it will be close.Had to fab. some cable extenders and some odds and ends, but easy enough. Thanks for the help, Charlie
