Lakes,
Sounds like a Zuss fitting. Old aircraft and others used something like that on panels that were for inspection access. If you can't find one, a well placed Velcro strip works great. It's what I use on my S1 fender and seat combo.

You could braze a nut-wing to the Dzus top?

I went to a big surplier of Zuss fasteners, took the seat with me & the guy said he has not seen this type fitting before, tried a few male Zuss bolts but nothing would match it.
any idea's like old online Buell parts lists & genuine accesory lists?
thanks, mean while i have it strapped down & riding the bike feels good am lower too.

Accessory seats used the stock hardware; are you sure your seat has the female end in it? Or is what you're looking at, the hole where the threaded insert would be if it hadn't fallen out?

I have a Pegasus seat on my M2L, and it fits right on with the stock (captured) screw.

To post a picture just hit the "Upload Attachment" button and the bottom of this page. Then hit browse and point it to where your picture is stored on your PC. As long as your picture isn't too big it should post after you upload it and post the resulting message. If too big you can resize it using Microsoft paint or Microsoft Power Tools which I prefer.
Power Tools is a free plugin that includes a picture resize tool. Just punch Microsoft Power Tools into a search engine and it should be a link to a Microsoft website you get it from not some third parts site. But not everybody used Microsoft.

Thanks for the link S1owner! I've been wanting to replace my worn out captive lead screw but didn't know what it was.

The stock seat screw holder is not a Dzus (1/4-turn) fastener, just a wing headed, wide-thread sort of self-tapping looking screw. It goes into a cheap, stamped metal plate, that you have shown, which looks busted. Even though it looks easy to replace, with just those two pop-rivets holding it, I've never seen, found, heard of, a replacement part source. If someone could reproduce them, they could sell a bunch. I bought an extra screw a while back, but fixing this plate has come up a few times, without any very good solutions.
For example, you could braze a nut to 2 thin strips of metal, bolt the strips to the seat using the rivet holes. Use a matching great big wing-style screw. In other words, home-make you own factory concept fastener. I'm sure there are other ways too.

Jayvee thanks for your thoughts, the fitting is not busted its the angle of the photo, i have another more direct photo but clicked on wrong one i'll just get a few Lead Captive screws as like to keep things stock if possible.

Jayvee you are correct its not a 1/4 turn it is a dzus captive lead screw they are diffrent follow the link and look at the picks if you wish. Also if anyone has a broken thread side they sell several kinds also. These are the bolts that came stock on my 96 s1

Wow, thanks S1. Looks like the one right in the picture. Also they have replacement plates! Haven't confirmed they carry the right size, but looks very promising...

Made by Dzus!
Dzus is a brand name not the name of the fastener

Ok I got it. I had looked up Dzus and it only said "proprietary name for 1/4 turn fasteners". The link I posted didn't have the brand name, one has to go back a page, and I didn't.
You'd be surprised how many things I read on the internet that are inaccurate. Thanks Jesus!
