Anyone know where I can get a high quality after market chain tensioner assembly with a thicker back plate that won't break? My bike is out of commission until I can find one ; ( supposed to go for a ride with a bunch of friends this weekend and now I can't

Take the adjuster apart and get it welded ...

If you adjust the chain to 3/4 inch play on the chain tight spot it will be fine ...

THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL IS WRONG !!!

PRIMARY CHAIN ADJUSTMENT Class 101, just PM me for a copy ...

The upgrade part from HD is much thicker and stronger than the original tensioner in the pre 2000 model years.

This chain adjuster was first used in 1990 and was up-dated in 2000 because they were getting stress cracks in them because the chains were being adjusted too tight on the BUELLs ...

Why would that be you ask, well the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL is wrong and it should say 3/4 inch on the tight spot ...

The adjuster worked fine until around 1997 and the FACTORY had to make them stronger so the incorrectly adjusted chain would not cause fatigue cracks in them on BUELLs ...

Wow, changing to the thicker one was supposedly a mid-year change in 2000.
When I recently took off my 2000's primary cover I found I already had the updated one. I guess it's possible the previous owner could have updated it.

I have a spare, bought it years ago for my Y2K Cyclone and found the updated part in there when I opened it up. Mine was a California model, not sure if that made any difference at all, it was purchased late in the year, maybe was a mid year model... I have no idea unless it was a service recall that the shop did at one point and I just wasn't advised.

Don't know what they cost these days Josh, but if Al doesn't have one in stock I can mail it out today so it would hopefully get to you quick. (I imagine UT to WA would be a couple days, even with the expedited shipping). Anyway my spare has been in a box since 2003, hanging out with spare bulbs and old tuns signals, you're welcome to it for the price of the part and shipping.

I've got my primary open right now and the tensioner in there has lots of life left in it.
