No other gear acting up. First gear can work fine...or it can drop in/out/in/out/IN, and it stays.

Did I miss some wear on the shift drum?

Dammit!

Rat,I have a transmission that does that and I've been told it's wear on the shift dogs.

Sorry to say, worn dogs. Not real hard to fix, but wait 'til winter.

I have the same issue but with second gear. I was also thinking it is probably the shift dogs. It works most of the time, so I think I will wait until winter before I open her up. I just look like an idiot sometimes when the X1 starts bucking around. Also makes cornering a little hairy sometimes.

Has it been disassembled recently? May want to confirm that the countershaft screw is still tight.

My M2 did it. I pulled the tranny, replaced the gear pair (I had other issues I had to address as well because I was running the belt too tight) and put it back together... problem solved.

I wouldn't say rebuilding the tranny was easy... but all in all... it wasn't that bad either. It just took some time and thought and patience.

If I saw a tuber somewhere with a broken tranny for sale for $1000, I'd come home with it.

Did you guys have any issues with getting stuck in neutral during the shift from first to second? Happens to me all the time and without warning. It really sucks when you are trying to maneuver in traffic and all of sudden you're not accelerating anymore.
