Recently became new owner of a 97 S3T. Prev owner replaced the CV with a Mikuni and there is quite a bit of slack in the throttle cable. I can twist throttle about 25 deg before it engages. How much slack is "normal"? This looks dangerous to me. (see video)

Advice? Thanks!

The THROTTLE CABLE ADJUSTMENT is in the FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL that you should have for your YEAR/MODEL BUELL ...

THAT CABLE IN YOUR VIDEO IS "TOO LOOSE" !!!

If you do not have the MANUAL yet, PM me and "i" will send ...

Actually, I'd say its borderline dangerous. It could get stuck at the wrong time and wrong place as it moves out of its slot.

The manual will be a guideline but with the diffrent carb it will be diffrent. I was pretty scared doing my work but it is actually fairly easy

I don't think there's going to be enough adjustment to bring it to where it needs to be. Cable tensioners are 70 % already. If that's the case, is there a way to attach a new ball end? If so, I could just modify this existing cable. It was new with the mikuni about a year ago.

same thing happened to me, the cables were loose and at the end of their adjustment range after the mikuni install.

let me know what you end up doing and how it works.

It's definitely the wrong cable for this set up. I'm tempted to fix issue by removing slack and attaching a new barrel with allen set screw clamp. I can't imagine that coming loose, but the kit is only recommended as a temporary (emergency) fix and I should probably take to shop and have the correct cable installed. Going to call and get a price on that.

Dannybuell- I see you're in Portland? I'm in Vancouver, WA. Is there a NW Buell Riders club anymore?

Guys a universal cable kit from Venhill will cost you 35 and its really easy. Or get the ends they have ones you screw on then solder or just solder ones. Can be done with normal tools and very easy. I had never done one but installed a custom throttle and needed custm cables so foximus hooked me up with Venhill america best decision and simple go that route and you can do all your cables yourself and route them the way you want!

The Mukuni has two different cable mounts.
One is longer than the other. You need the long one for the Buells. Stock cables then work fine.

Here's a pic.

Update-
I got a screw on end from Venhill but when I cut the existing cable (with sharp snips) the cable end frays so bad there's no way to feed it through the tiny hole in the barrel end. (FAIL) so...

I verified that I have the correct (Buell) Cable mount and ordered a stock Buell Idle cable from Barnett. Installed it and I have the exact same problem as before Excessive slack). (FAIL)

Everything looks correct up at the throttle control. Can't seem to figure out why "stock" idle cables keep ending up being about 3/4" too long.

When you cut cable you need to use a cable cutter i have one used for peddle bikes and it works great anything else will frey the cable!

I had this same problem and bought an extender for the cable mount through American Sport Bike and no more slack. The extender was made for this specific issue, but I don't know if it is still in production.
