I recently picked up an S2 - probably could have looked it over a little better before I brought it home, but I need to work with what I have. I'm replacing the belt and while I had it off I noticed the rear fender had a small chunk out of it at the top. Didn't think too much of it until reassembly. The rear fender is riding on the tire on the left side. Turns out the PO put a 180 tire on the rear. The fender isn't centered over the tire. Can it be heated and slightly reformed? I'm looking at some shimming options but if I can reform I think I'd have a better long term answer.

Mine had the same problem when I got it. Then I found the recalled swingarm had mounting holes at slightly different locations. Check if your swingarm is recalled one, then see page 10 and 11 on this document: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/384 2/B025A-263572.pdf
You should enlarge a hole or drill a new one. 180 tire shouldn't be a problem. Mine runs on 180 too.

Usually dealers do not care much about how well they align. They do not read the document, they just guess, try, and if they bolt up somehow they think it is done. The machine is yours, you can do TLC.

The resin they use on the CF is a thermoset and can not be 'remolded' once the resin has set up. I would try the shimming route.

Thanks, guys. Saved me some time holding a heat gun hoping for the best. The link was interesting as well. I don't have the wire hanger. Apparently need to get me one. Things got much worse when I moved on to the isolators. Hopefully will make it back to shimming/modifying this weekend. Hate to redrill, but I guess if it's a little beat up it's not like I'm trying to preserve a museum piece!

I had a very small amount of luck "shifting" some cheap (Chinese?) CF I bought off of ebay. rear fender for my X1 that was a "deal" was warped or poorly done, it really showed when I mounted it on my x1. my only option was throw it away or try and take the warp out. I heated it up with a heat gun and used wood blocks to shim it past where I wanted, then applied more heat and as best as I could tell would be the key points of stress then let it cool over night...got lucky with very poorly done CF and it worked for me. Not a trick I would use on quality CF....just got lucky by being dumb and inexperienced with CF I guess combined with cheap junk....
