The paint removal thread has me thinking about the current state of my fuel tank once again. Mine has started to develop a few small bubbles, but it's only a matter of time before it becomes worse.

Anyway, I was thinking about giving hydro filming a try....

Anyone have any experience?

Would you still need to prime and paint before you do the hydro-dip?

Pretty good idea, that would be interesting to see how it would work out for longevity.

the stock paint bubbles due to "outgassing",
wright?

Just like the Buell stickers bubble, I would think this stuff would also bubble over time.

I was just at an auto detail shop on Friday getting some pieces of the clear bra material used on cars and they have a product that is very similar to carbon fiber that is used to wrap vehicles. It looks pretty cool. I think if it was professionally done on a bike it would look very nice.

My paint job from 06 has held up fine with no bubbling. The vinyl race stripes and Buell lettering have bubbled and needed attention several times in the last nearly six years. I'll be happy to post pics of current new bubbles in my vinyl lettering, should anyone doubt.

If they make a perf'd overlay, like the whole body wraps on buses and car dealership courtesy vans it might hold up better.

I don't know about doing the bodywork but I've got my dash, front sprocket cover, derby cover, shifter rod, and exhaust heat shield all done in carbon fiber. Had them all done about 2 years ago and they're holding up well. Heat shield not so good. Near the top, close to the head has discolored but it was a risk I was willing to take. If neede I can try to take some pics and post sometime next week.

I spoke with a guy at hydrographicsinc and he was familiar with Buells, they have had a lot of success on other plastics, he is going to do some research on the exact material and see if he thinks he can do something for us.
