Author Message   Foximus Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 01:17 pm:        So I rode down town last week... everything was fine. Go to start the bike up. Turn the key... Instrumentation and everything starts up for half second. Loud Click. All electronics shut off immediately. I tried replacing the main power relay, as well as the mystery relay under the oil tank... (?) Neither helps. Perhaps the main breaker under the seat? What are your thoughts?   Essmjay Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 02:23 pm:        Ignition switch is my guess. I went out just now to actually go start tearing things down and really examined it.... bike started right back up... How does that breaker box work? When I went to go pick the bike up 24 hours after it cut off, it still wouldn't turn on... I had not touched it since then. A week later. Right as rain. Whaa? haha.   Imaposer2 Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 04:13 pm:        Ruh roh... Intermittent electrical troubles can be a bear! I had a problem with a car once. Chased it for a couple of years... read up and tried to diagnose it... talked to a mechanic friend a couple of times... had it at the dealer twice, and they kept it overnight with the service manager driving it home... frustrating as HELL! Couldn't solve it until it finally just quit. Of course once that happened it was pretty straight forward to diagnose and fix. Turned out to be a bad fuel pump relay. Simple as pie, but it kept me on pins and needles for a couple of years... Of course this has nothing to do with your problem other than to say that I feel your pain... Good luck on getting it fixed...   S1owner Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 05:41 pm:        Ignition switch mine did the same thing and everyone kept telling me ignition and i thought there is no way so i tore into everything and in the end found out it was the ignition   Buellistic Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 08:36 pm:        No body ever thinks about a hidden over ride switch(hidden) so you can get home ... "OR" switches to turn off you headlight and tail light if the battery surprise is a no start ... Maybe if you put a relay in that turn the lights off(like your car) the battery would last longer ???   Ratbuell Posted on Sunday, June 10, 2012 - 11:27 pm:        I'd go with keyswitch. If it didn't work hot, but worked fine cold....   Jolly Posted on Monday, June 11, 2012 - 08:28 pm:        I just had that happen the other day! strangest thing, I thought something had seriously arced...fiddled with the standard stuff, nothing loose on the battery, all fuses were good, tried the key again, everything lit up like it was supposed to...only happened once....no idea what caused it..   Essmjay Posted on Monday, June 11, 2012 - 10:40 pm:        Ignition switch problems often are intermittent at the beginning.   Sportyeric Posted on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 - 01:22 am:        I have an old plug from a buggered ignition where I've spliced and taped the wires together. Just plug it into the wiring harness instead of the ignition switch and there you go. (Used it for a year when I couldn't remember where I'd left the key.)
