I average around 25 miles per gallon. Is this too low? What should I check to get this thing to run better? I ride conservatively most of the time. | ||

That seems pretty low. Is the bike stock, open riding or city? A little more info would be helpful, but that does sound low. On my X1 on the open road I get around 48 mpg and I don't think I've ever seen it dip below 30 mpg around town. (Message edited by mcelhaney14 on May 24, 2012) | ||

I haven't ridden my bike and tracked mileage that much yet, but on the last couple of fill-ups I did note the mileage ridden and the quantity of gas used. Of course both times it only took 1.6 gallons to fill it up so it may not be accurate to the nth degree, but it's averaged right at 50mpg so far. I was actually pretty surprised at that number since most of the miles I've ridden so far have been of the "let's see how this new bike runs" variety, so it hasn't just all been cruising along slowly trying to get good mileage numbers. | ||

Bike was bought a few months ago with a white brothers exhaust, and I put on a Custom air cleaner. Most mileage are from city riding. | ||

The bike ran fine with no starting issues. I only had to pull on the enrichner knob almost everytime I start it for about a minute. | ||

I get between 53 and 57 mpg depending on how I'm riding. The 57 was at sustained hwy cruising speeds for the majority of the tank. 25 mpg is definitely off. Do you have a gas leak or is someone stealing gas outa your tank? | ||

45 in town with liberal throttle use. 55 on the freeway going 75-80 But I did get 70 one time cruising at 60 for an extended period (probably with a tailwind) | ||

25?! I get a consistent 50 out of mine. The only time it was lower I had stupidly allowed the tire pressure to dip below 20. | ||

Have the same problem of low mileage, 2000 M2, clean air filter, averages about 36 to 38. I guess I'll try the 'SeaFoam' first. | ||

A good first step is to look at the spark plugs, idealy they should be light tan. I am guessing yours are black. | ||

Most of the time if you are getting horrible gas mileage and 25 is horrible someone in the past has been screwing with the carb. This was primarily a Sportster problem but if someone drilled the idle jet too far to get the off idle spit out of the engine the mileage went into the toilet. This could also happen if someone was trying the quick and dirty way of adjusting for a different muffler. Clean the carb first if that doesn't work tear into the carb looking for adjustments that shouldn't be there. | ||

Mine was over-jetted for a straight (loud) pipe. I since went stock on the muffler, so I know it's too rich. I get 37 mpg before and after the muffler swap |
