When I got the bike out this spring (2000 M2), everything worked great, and then I started having the speedo stop working from time to time, and other times the neutral safety switch and light would stop working. Both seem to be crapping out more regulary, lately, like almost all the time.

Everything else seems to work fine. Any suggested troubleshooting ideas I should check before I start replacing parts willy-nilly? Seems like a funny coincidence.

Thanks for any help!

David

Both mount to the transmission (the sensors, that is), and both can be damaged by floating metal debris.

Time to pull 'em and clean 'em.

Check your connections, grounds, and harness connectors.Pull them apart and check to see if there is any"crude" build up in the connections, connectors, etc.Expecially up near the dash area.Just my $.05 worth(cost of another inflation rise, again).LT

If its spotty on the speedo thing...+1 to what Ratbuell said.Mine upped and quit and i replaced the speedo sensor and its been working fine again. If you have(and need to get if you don't have) the shop/service manual, there's a diagnostic "tree" to do the speedo test.

Thanks for the suggestions. The transmission debris is an interesting hypothesis. Coincidentally, the transmission has been clunking going into 2nd. I'll have a peek inside and see what I can learn.

Any other suggestions appreciated.
