i have a 1999 x1 with a force exhaust, force winder intake, and the stock ECM... checked all of the variables on ECMSPY and all checked good. Will a race ECM make THAT much of a difference? Anybody have a map for a stock ECM with the same set-up? What exactly is different on the race 'ECM from the stock ECM?
Thanx for all of the help...

See for yourself...

Stock

Race

Finally, here is one I made custom using the race map as a starting point. I datalogged in ECMSPY then ran that file through the VE analyzer in MLV. I then did another log, ran VE analyzer again & finally tweaked the map for low rev driveability by adding fuel between 2k & 3k rpm between 20&40 throttle position (9 cells) which yielded this:

The seat of the pants difference between race & custom maps is unreal. My S3 feels like a totally different bike.

Looks good, Kristopher! What specific low-rev driveability problems were you trying to solve, and are you satisfied with the results?

For those that might be influenced by these maps the question is ;Are these front fuel maps or the rear ?

These are rear maps.

The low rev driveability can best be summed up as the lurching choppiness around 2500 in first gear -parking lot speed. I modified the 9 cells on the rear map by 4% on the rear then pasted those numbers into the front map & increased them by 12%. I found the recommendation on another board & figured I'd give it a shot it's just a few keystrokes & if it doesn't do anything, I can undo it easily. Well, it worked. No more constant clutch work in parking lots!

2500 RPM lurch?
My X1 will happily cruise around all day at that engine speed.
I have the race ECU. Is the 2500 RPM lurch present in the EPA maps?
I've never driven my bike stone stock.
It was purchased as a demo bike with 750 miles on it and loud pipe+ecm+ruined airbox.

LaFayette -I set a target AFR of 14.7:1 throughout the entire range. It is my understanding that I'd need a wideband O2 sensor to target anything else. (although, I'm sure there must be a way to calculate for either higher or lower mixes based on stock sensor readings) When I check the global correction in the ecm after a ride, it is at 100 which means it's neither adding or subtracting fuel from my map.

Natexlh1000 -your bike is smooth at 2500rpm in first gear? A friend I used to ride with had a race kitted 00X1 that I rode many years ago. I don't remember the lurch but definitely remember there being a power surge at 4500rpm. It would pull but there was a big hit at 4500 & just scream from there. I was very glad to be on a carbed M2 back then. In any case, my S3 felt the same as his X1. I stumbled on ECMSPY & some tuning threads. I gave it a shot & the bike is a totally different bike than it was before. More linear power, smoother, less vibes & the like.

Knwyman:

Have you ever checked your timing to make sure it is correct ???

Yes, I checked the timing & reset the TPS before I started any of this.

I don't mean to give the impression that the bike was unrideable, it wasn't. It's just much better now.

OK here is some more info...
the firmware on my stock ECM is BUEGC0B0 A.
So i guess i have the original ECM with the NOT upgraded firmware. I also have a map that loos like it has been played with... it does not match any of the maps Knwyman showed on his post. Again, will the race ECM make any difference? it has different maps so it should Right!!?

"The low rev driveability can best be summed up as the lurching choppiness around 2500 in first gear -parking lot speed...."

I finally had a chance to modify my maps per these suggestions (with the exception of bumping up only 6% vs. 12% for the front) and rode the bike this morning. I must say it did make a noticeable difference in the "low rev driveability" as defined above. The so called throttle choppiness in 1st and 2nd gear is now smoothed out. I'll check my AFV when I get home tonight. It was 110 when I made the changes and reset it to 100 before I left. Thank you so much for sharing your experience.

Tweeked my maps a few years back using MLV and then fine tuning using Ego correction graph in MLV.
Well worth doing as its smooth throughout the rev range with a constant 100% AFV.
I would post the map but aint got a clue how to upload it !

I found this advise for posting pic......For use the Paint software on my computer to reduce the image down to 18-20% of the original size. To do this open the pic with Paint, then click on "Image" in the tool bar. Select Stretch/Skew and enter new percentages (try 18% to start and see where it gets you) for Vertical and Horizontal. Click "okay" and save your image under "save as" to preserve your original. It only takes a few seconds to do this and gives a smaller file for posting here.

If you hit the old print screen button, most operating systems take a screen capture.
You can then paste it into image editing software of your choice.

Thanks for the help Alfau, i think this is the current map but cannot check as the laptop is tits up.
The bike is running with a race exhaust and home made force winder type air intake.

It does take several atempts to get it right, i found i had to fine tune it using EGO correction percentage graph in megalog viewer,
If i remember correctly if EGO was adjusting by lets say 5% plus or minus at a certain RPM and TP then i would adjust the fuel cell at that rpm and tp up or down by 5% and maybe smooth out the cells either side to get an even flow of cell numbers and do this at all the points in the datalog graph where the ego was correcting the fuel. Its a slow process and i'm not sure if its the correct way of going about things but it worked for me.

Most of the problems with the X1 were caused by our government. The Stock ECM is way too lean and would cause pinging on hot days. ENGINE DAMAGE. Only way to save the X1 was with a race map. VDO hands were tied and they were ashamed of themselves. for 1998 the ECM is pretty cool and smart but the tune is Criminal! Courtesy of our gov. and enviro WACKOs.
