hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone had the part number for an '99 M2 rear brake pedal... Also, would the Blast pedal work (N0501.TA)? Interesting story behind me braking it off without dropping the bike (if you're interested).

Thanks in advance!

I was driving into work today and rode over one of those retreads off a 18 wheeler at 80 mph. I had no time to get out of the way. I think that I turned another batch of hair white. Ha.
As I launched over the retread, I felt it hit my foot, I looked down and the end of my brake pedal was gone and my kickstand was down. Yikes!

Man! You're lucky that your brake pedal was all you broke. It's that time of year again and those things can be very dangerous.

Increase your following distance and keep your eyes high. You should endeavor to always have a clear line of sight down the road. A 15 second eye lead time is a very good rule of thumb to follow in order to give you plenty of time to react to road hazards that you come upon.

And stay far far away from those death traps. They can be fatal to motorcyclists if you're close enough to the truck when the tread decides to separate. I have damage to my right side truck mirror from one now. It was thrown up by another vehicle as I was passing. It completely shattered the plastic mirror housing and I shudder to think what it would have done if I had been on my bike instead of my truck and it had been my head instead of my mirror.

Glad you're safe.

Thanks for sharing. Here in Houston, TX you never know what to expect on the roads. 2X4's, plywood, aluminum ladders, luggage, and of course the road gators (truck tire treads).

Glad you are ok!

Wow! you are lucky.
I would check the underside of your bike just to be sure there aren't any other fun little surprises under there.

From my 2000-01 M2 Parts catelog it seems you're looking for part number N0501.MA Which also seems to be be discontinued. So off to the parts piles for you.

What a story.

Glad you are OK! My office desk has a window that looks out over I-75 outside Dayton. About 5 times a year I will hear a "BANG", look over, and see a tread still ascending before it comes back down in the middle of the road.

I can then watch people swerving and hitting it for about the next 15 minutes before it gets knocked into the median.

The last one came off, went under a different 18 wheeler, and broke or locked something up in his trailer, and he left a smoking trail as he bailed towards the shoulder with at least one wheel not turning.

It really changes the way I ride on the interstate... I was coming into work on Friday with a lot of trucks around me, smelled hot rubber, and saw a cloud of smoke... I was a lane over and ready to escape to the median before it was clear that the smoke was just a chipped diesel pickup that had hit the throttle and made a cloud of soot.

The smell of burning rubber makes me go into full pucker mode now when I am on the interstate.

Thanks for all of your concern!

I've gone over my bike and don't see any damage other than the snapped off brake pedal. I'm super happy about that.

I have been riding for over 15 years and this has never happened to me. Hearing all of your advice and thinking about what happened, it makes me feel like I don't pay enough attention while on the boring highway leg of my commute (not so when I'm on the back roads ). I certainly will pay more attention from now on.
