So I got in my first one. Someone pulled into traffic in front of me while I was going about 40. I tried to dodge, but he made contact with the exhaust pipes on the right side of my '99x1. I have very few injuries, and I was able to just walk home. I MAY be able to salvage the engine and build a new bike or something, but it looks pretty bad really. I was just curious though, what sort of bullshit do I have to expect from insurance if both parties are insured and I have been paying for comprehensive insurance w/$250 deductible? Are most insurance companies prompt with their check-writing? Strangely enough, I want to get back on a bike ASAP and preferably another buell. |

I have Progressive and the last accident I had,the adjuster came to my house within two days of my reporting it.He looked the bike over, found a few things I wouldn't have even considered to be part of the damage and cut a check about an hour and a half after showing up.I repaired the bike and ended up with a couple hundred in my pocket after the dust settled. |

Wow! That's the same company I have my policy with. That makes me feel a bit more at ease. |

It it is CONSIDERED TOTALED and you can not easily repair, but the cash out money will buy another, just piece part it out ... IF THE FRAME IS BENT THEY CONSIDER THAT TOTALED ... |

If you buy another keep the first for spare parts. Rebuild the engine at your pleasure and store all the pieces you may need later on in bins. That's what I would do anyway. I love my X1 but it is hard on parts. |

I have progressive too...my experience was the same as buellish, but I had quite a bit worth of money in aftermarket accessories and parts, which I bought used for real cheap. Well, progressive doesn't depreciate aftermarket stuff, so I got 3 gs for the bike (blue book was 3500, they gave it a salvage value of 500) and another 4 gs for the aftermarket stuff. So I got 7 gs for a bike that I was into for about 3 gs. The adjuster did google searches on his computer siting on my front porch to figure the value of stuff and then he printed me off a check on his portable printer right there. |

I'm fine. Just sore and missing some skin here and there. I have some accessories and the like on mine too. Most notable is the Works Perf shock and buell racing muffler. There's an M2 in the classifieds near me... How do you think that would compare to the X1? |

The M2 would have longer legs, front sprocket is different. |

M2 runs stock sportster cams, very torquey, not so much peak power. M2's run great around town, but tracktime is where you really notice the lack of the top end. I love my M2's power and rode both before buying my M2, the M2 (99+ model years) also have the thunderstorm heads like the X1's and S3's. If your X1's suspension is okay you could swap it right over. I put X1 forks on my M2 in 2002 after a car helped me get started on modifying my bike. They respond very well to tuning the suspension and intake and exhaust mods are simple, just rejet and ride. Glad you are okay and looking forward to riding again. It's a little ways off from you, but here's a low mile '01 M2 in beautiful shape in St. George, UT for only $2800: http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=20118401&c at=&lpid=&search=buell |

So, I could stay in the buell family and grab an M2 locally or an XB9R. I really like the looks of the XB9... Are they really flickable? That's what I loved about the X1. Probably less power in the XB9, seeing as how it IS smaller. Progressive came through and I recouped everything I put into the X1, including the Works adjustable shock. Very cool. |

XB's are soooo flickable, very fun. I was bored with the 9's when I rode them years ago, my opinion was that compared to my Cyclone they were too smooth - lacking the visceral attitude I enjoy from the tuber. The 12's are a nice balance of smooth and powerful. The 9's can be tuned though, and respond well to intake and exhaust mods as well, Drummer does some nice muffler mods for these bikes and putting a later model XB12 airbox cover on, and either venting the top cover or using a 12 cover there as well really improves the intake flow. And they are soooooo very flickable. Spin up fast and have a higher red-line than the 12's. There are a lot of bonuses to a 9. Prolly get better gas mileage too, though I've not looked into that. |

I have almost 97K miles on my S1. The S1 is such an easy going motor, it is my #1 choice for urban riding. I have an 1125CR with 17K miles for rural riding. Both bikes are well modified by gp suspension including a Penske for the S1. The S1 is flickable, the CR is very flickable. I am a big guy, the CR fits me comfortably with XBS1 foot pegs (1" lower) and the better cushioned saddlemen seat. I would recommend riding any XB12 variant before you make any decisions. |

I love my Uly, but BOY could my XB9sx split a dime on a whim. Any point in any turn at any moment just by thinking about it. And I love the off the line grunt of the Uly, but I also sure loved the howl of a 9 motor at 7200 RPM with a gutted airbox. Droooool. And those 9 motors seem REALLY reliable. |

I took a XB9sx for a test drive and agree with Reep's observations. They're so stubby that if you look down when riding it, you just see the front wheel. Feels like you're riding a huffy down the highway |
