I was at the Harley dealer yesterday and was talking with the parts guy about the switch to the XB RBcovers when he showed me the cover on a newer (04+, or 07+) sportster.

It looks just like the XB, only it doesn't have the PCV valves in it like the XB.
Still replaces the two piece cover, but retains the venting out the side of the head.

Has anyone come across this?

I have my buell engine in a different frame, and has concerns about the PCV valves on the XB version, but this newer sportster version looks like it would do the trick.
Even the bolt patterns look the same.

Parts guy checked the parts number for the rocker boxes and said they were the same, soooo I'm thinking it should doable.

They offer them in Polished, Chrome, and Black ranging from 65-115 bucks.

Correct me if I am wrong, but the reason for converting is to get rid of the venting out the side and move it to the top to get less oil in the venting.

Go with the XB PVC setup as it is the "BEST" !!!

Well, switching to a one-piece cover eliminates a potential leak as well.

The XB may be the "best" because it eliminates the side vents.

As mentioned, the PCV valves on the XB covers may create a clearance problem in my frame.

And since I have to replace leaky Rocker Box gaskets I figured I might as well upgrade to a new, one piece cover that I could paint or coat, etc.

Just wondered if it would fit.

Mattsdrag95:

Can not give you any info on the installing of the XB covers, "BUT" some where on BWBers this problem with the XB
covers was addressed ...

"i" put BLAST PVC VALVES(same as the XB valves)in my OEM valve covers(before the XB models came out) placing them where "i" IMHO they should best go ...

ERIK BUELLs design is better !!!

It will fit. You can drill the PCV vent where ever you like if you have frame clearance issues. Getting one in wrinkle black from the factory might be pretty cool too. It'll match the rest of my engine.

Can you get a one piece on to the head in the frame?

I have two front XB rockerboxes (in wrinkle black from a '10 Ulysses) on my S2.

The rear rockerbox put the PCV valve into the underside of the tank, so I got a second front, moving the valve to the rear/bottom of the head and it works great.

Problem isn't the actual cover for me, it's likely to be a problem where the PCV valve goes.

Hootowl, not sure if I'm thinking along the lines of what you're saying, but you made me think that I could always buy polished covers, and if the PCV valve is in a bad spot I could weld a cap over the existing PCV valve hole and drill a new hole in a better location.

For reference, attached is a picture in my frame so you can see what I mean by potentially having frame/tank interference issues.

Unless the front Valve is about dead center I think I'd run into an issue hitting the tank. Possibly even the back.
This is why the newer sportster cover without the valves was appealing to me. Plus a nice polished or chrome cover would add some nice contrast.

I was talking about the sporty covers without the hole. You could put a new hole where ever it would not interfere with your tank/frame or the mechanical bits under the cover.

That's an even better idea Hootowl.
Thanks.

Use two rear covers. The covers, in their stock locations, put the valves at the intake end of the cover, on the "high" end. Put a rear cover on your front cylinder and the valve will be at the front of both heads
