Ok, a project long put off. I have an M2 with a light custom made straight pipe on it and want to put on the V&H and 'Y' bracket I've for awhile. How do I support the bike and how do I relieve the pressure from the shock to slip the bolts out for a few minutes. I have pit bull stands front and rear, condor and baxtley stands and hydraulic jacks.

Put the hydraulic jacks under the foot peg mounts. After putting the front wheel in the Baxley, of course.

I just did a shock replacement this spring.

1. support the bikd on the footpegs so the rear wheel is off the ground. (no weight on it)

2. Place something under the rear wheel so that when you remove the shock bolts it won't move to much.

That's pretty much it.

Easier way.

Get a scissors jack and mount over rear tire and put a 2x4 block of wood between the jack and the subframe.

Break the rear nut free and jack the scissors jack up enough to have the rear bolt "relaxed", in other words, no pinching of the bolt in the bracket.

Real easy and can be done on the side stand.

Even easier. I did mine (99 X1) on the kickstand. Once you remove the top bolt from the front, the bike drops. Just keep on working. when it comes time to put the top bolt back in, put a jack under where the rear shock mounts to the swingarm and raise it until the front bracket lines up.

+1 on the jack under shock mount. If you do it right the tire will lift off just enough and rest on the sidestand. Just be careful. its not that stable.
On a side note. How does that straight pipe sound? do you by chance have a sound clip?

I guess I would be a fan too, found this following me home a couple weeks ago!

Just curious though, how come your bike doesn't already have the y bracket on it?

It sounds awesome with the straight pipe, but way to loud, lol! I'm assuming the previous owner who fabricated this stainless pipes removed it because it is unneccesary. There is absolutely no weight to it. Thanks all. I will try to post a video on youtube for u guys
