from generous bad weather bikers help I got an updated front muffler exhaust bracket and mount spacers. I have at least two problems. One is that I cannot get the top bolt out of the support bracket(all it all do is spin). Page of the manual 2-87 and 2-88. Second problem is that the updated bracket is missing the middle hole. Do I need to drill hole for the bracket. |

Might need a picture. Do you have a wrench on the backside of the bolt? |

Dude, I just went through this last night. Two bolts hold the y-bracket on, and they both go through the cases. When I pulled the top bolt the bike dropped, it also holds the bracket for the rear shock! Went through a similar experience with my LowRider, went to replace the top shock bolts with the ones for the new saddlebags I was putting on, fender dropped when I pulled the bolts. Had to get the weight off the shocks, ended up gently laying it down in the grass and was able to get the new bolts in. Had to do the same with the Buell, no bike jacks here and a swingarm jack won't help anyway, still keeps the weight on the suspension (wish I had never sold that Centerstand lift I bought for the S1!) Laid it down in the grass and the bolt went right back in, lesson learned! Like was posted above, wrench on the back for both bolts! |

One way to support the bike while removing the shock is to remove the footpegs, flip them over, and reinstall. Then you can set the bike on jackstands and get the weight off of the wheel. Mike |

Get a scissor's jack and put between the tire and the rear tail support section. Get it just right so it won't slip out. Put something like a piece of 2x4 wood block between the jack and the tail section. Start jacking until you get the weight off the bolts holding the rear shock mount/muffler mount. However, use the weight to your advantage to get the nut off the back side of the one bolt, because you will only be able to use an open end wrench on the top bolt (because of the cover). Pretty straight forward once you understand what I've said. |

@ Bigslug: that is frickin' brilliant! And so simple. I'll have to remember that the next time I get into a similar situation! |

Sorry that this did not get posted yesterday as i had issues with computers and pictures(i like film). Anyways, the black bracket is the stock and the aluminum one is the updated(i believe after market) part. My issue with this is the missing middle hole. Is the hole that necessary to hold the voltage regulator?

Iconverted, that is not the updated bracket. It looks more like an inverted "Y". |

Well, ok im may be wrong about it being the updated bracket(that is what i was told and i was told it was after market). Im not sure what the inverted "Y" is but the black bracket is stock and the silver is the new piece. Again, does anyone know if the middle hole that holds the voltage regulator is necessary? The voltage regulator is supported on the opposite side(but only by one small bolt). |

Probably for one of the tubers where the voltage regulator was mounted somewhere else (S1, M2). Probably aftermarket if it's aluminum and not just a polished stock piece. Definitely not the updated one though as pictured here http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/17036.html |
