Hi, you may remember me from my question regarding the crankcase breather tube (so I thought it was) spitting oil. Well the tube I was talking about is a tube running up the right side of the frame under the tail seat. I thought this was the crankcase breather tube but I suspect I may be wrong.....It hasnt spit out as much as it used to lately and I took the bike to a HD mechanic and he replaced the main crankcase seal as it was pouring out the bottom of the crankcase (off topic)....he also gave me a tune up....AS HE SAYS....Anyways, lately I have noticed this other tube on the left hand side just above the kickstand....it has what appears to be some sort of K&N breather device on it....lately it has been seeping this foamy oily junk out of this thing...what is this??? (SEE PICS). I bought this bike used and it has a few modifications that I know of....I looked for this part (tube) in the service manual and see nothing....Please Help! What is this? Why is it seeping this oily stuff? And what do I need to do? I also somewhat feel like the bike is lacking power....dont know if this is becasuse of this or what....loses power right around top 2nd, 3rd gear. Nothing significant and barely noticible....but what do I know??? How can I say that I have nothing to compare too. Please help...Thanks....Click on this link to see the pics of my problem...

That would be you crankcase breather. It is routed from the hoses attatched to you carb at the intake. The white sludge is due to a mix of water and oil (condensation in the crankcase). Short trips and not getting the engine up to operating temp will result in more of the condensation and in tern create more of the milky splooge. Normally you want some sort of a catch can in line before that filter to catch the splooge so it does not go all the way to the filter.

FIRST of all all breather hoses should be run to a CATCH CONTAINER, especially the
TRANSMISSION BREATHER ...

The transmission holds 32oz., not one quart ...

If you over fill you oil tank the engine will PUKE out the excess oil until the engine is happy with the oil level ...

CHECK YOU TRANSMISSION/ENGINE OIL Class 101, just PM me for a copy ...

Where does the other end of the filter go to? I have a similar set up. actually I cant tell what you have... but I have my crank case breathers routed to an air filter (like yours) but it needs to face up as not to puke oil all over. The other side of the filter goes to an empty tube with a valve at the end so I can drain my puke.

Joshm2 - take a look at this old thread, has pictures of several setups. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/291947.html?1185236184

My setup is a lot like the one posted by Djkaplan at 4:47 pm on July 18, 2007.

Buellistic does a quart still hold 32oz. I just had to ask. I just add 1 quart to the primary/tranny and it never caused a problem. A couple oz's either way will not be noticed.

Ok now I'm really confused.....the tube that runs out of the top of the transmission is the one that leads up and is zip tied under the rear right tail right around the license plate holder???? That one sometimes shoots oil out at high rpms....should I put a catch container on that? If so how? The other tube, on the other side of the bike is the one that has the K&N breather on it shown in the pictures spewing this oily water liquid all over my frame...this tube leads to the carb....should I put a catch container on that? If so how? Orrrr....can I just drain it periodically at the bottom of the hose?? Thanks for your help guys I really appreciate it!!! I'm broke!!! The Harley mechanic took all my money!!

The one from the transmission to the license plate is the tranny breather. If it's shooting oil out, that may be why folks are asking about how much transmission oil went in to it. That don't sound right. Mine never shoots out oil, but an oil mist, yes. I think one of those tiny K&N type filters on the end might be wise.
The 'head breathers' come out on either side of the carb mount bracket, and these hoses most likely will dribble messy tan goop all over the place. Easiest thing is 'tee' the two breather hoses into one, and run the one into a small recycled plastic bottle, like from carb cleaner. Spray paint it black, and zip-tie the bottle to the frame, you are good. At least for long enough to consider your options at length, and replenish yo bank a bit.
