I'm at a loss... Last fall my 98 s3t tore off the aluminum mount off the top of the ssr2 can. I've been looking for a replacement that won't bankrupt me, and I'm thinking D&D might work, however all of the selections they offer state they are for yrs 99 and up. Is this just due to the oxygen sensor? would a 99 exhaust bolt onto my 98 with minor fabrication? (and plug O2 hole)
On a 98 with a 2.5" side collector, are there other options I'm not seeing besides rebuilding the ssr? (It is pretty well trashed from the at-speed dismount)
Thanks in advance for your insight...

why not replace the aluminum shell for some stainless and re-use the inside and muffler tips (or make these to)

that's what i would do!

I left the 90 degree elbow from my WileyCo pipe (I believe the D&D is similar) and ordered a glass pack for $16. It's a cheap, but solid temp fix. I am currently building a new exhaust can myself, but this gets me through till it's done.

oddbarn, i believe you are having the same issue i had when looking for a slip-on for my 98 S1W, since those were the only 2 bikes that year w/ the 2.5" collector. I assumed slip-ons for 99-up would fit since they also were 2.5", but at least with the V&H, that wasn't the case, there was a specific part # for slip-on that fit that header. Later ones physically would fit the header, but the elbow had it angled out weirdly.. make sense?

Brother: yeah, thats the long term plan. meanwhile, the straight header alone is deafening. (I do like the sound, however I have neighbors...)
Koz: thanks, I'm looking into at least the 90 elbow... then I could run pretty much any straight-ish muffler for now.
Wtrash: I get it, I think...the s3T and s1W were the only two models in 98 with 2.5", and the angle of the dangle is different on them than the following productions... so trying to put on a 99+ doesn't line up correctly in the back.
Thank you all. time to go shopping.

That must be a common problem with the V&H, I have a '99 X1 and the can on it looks just like yours except the aluminum is welded back up in the same area that you are missing.

Any half decent machine shop can cut a piece of aluminum, drill it to fit the bracket and weld it up. Prolly cost less than $100 to get it done too.

Yes, it is a common issue for the SS2R.

See if you can find the rear hangar and clamps for a carbon version of the SS2R - stainless, not aluminum. Grind off the aluminum's mount ears and use the stainless setup.

I went through 4-5 VH's on my S1's, back in the day. They just broke apart. I have a supertrapp on my my S2.......40k and never even tighten the bolts any more. The still make a 2 1/2 inch.....pricey, but will last forever.

Also check Ebay.

As others have said an easy repair. Good luck.

Ride safe...Jack

I'd be interested in a Torque Hammer for an S2 (rear facing 2" header collector) if you guys do one...my Supertrapp is holding up great, but just sounds too "flat" for my tastes...
