I am trying to trace an oil leak from the front of my 2002 M2. I had the paper base gaskets replaced a number of years ago and visually that does not look to be the cause. It almost appears as if the oil sensor is leaking. Is that possible and has anyone else had this issue? A search here did not reveal anything. | ||

Haven't had it on my M2 yet but I have before on my Jeep and my '70 Challenger, which has a very similar oil sender. The plastic separates from the metal if it is old enough and starts to leak. | ||

I've seen it before. My ironhead used that to vent "excess" oil a couple times. Is it leaking from the threaded fitting or the sensor body? If it's leaking from the threaded section, you could try torquing it down just a little as it's tapered. | ||

Yes. My oil sensor started leaking at the plastic part last year so I replaced it. Just be careful to loosen it squarely (with a socket, not a crescent wrench.) I snapped mine on the Sporty from coming at it at an angle but I think that was because the frame is in the way. | ||

Thanks for the help. I removed my shock for a rebuild and the exhaust so I figured I would try and track down the leak. now that I can see in there it looks like the area around the sensor is where it starts getting dirty. Hopefully I can inspect further tonight and clean this anoying issue up. |
