When you get the FRONT ISOLATOR KIT you will find that the NEW FRONT ISOLATOR use's a SMALLER size bolt and the OEM bolt is LARGER ...

IMHO for SAFETY you should get the isolator bored out for the LARGER OEM BOLT !!!

On a BLAST you can get away with the smaller bolt because the ENGINE is "LIGHTER" !!!

Is it the American Sport Bike part or the OEM redesigned part that has the smaller bolt?

It is the LAST UP-DATE on the RETROFIT "FRONT MOTOR MOUNT" off the H-D "BIG TWIN" ...

The "BIG TWIN" engine sets on it WHERE THE BUELL WILL HANGS FROM IT !!!

SO IF YOU WANT TO HANG YOUR ENGINE WITH A SMALLER BOLT, its your arse !!!

And you are going to put the smaller bolt in your motor mount with out shimming it, which has a larger bolt hole for the larger OEM BOLT ???

So, how do you bore the thing out, if I want to do that and use the bigger bolt? And does boring it out compromise the rubber?

If the American Sport Bike part is better than the OEM part, then why would it be the updated part off the big twin?

Ever since I've been on here, everyone touts American Sport Bike as having the best parts or at least better than what H-D would provide. Now it seems that I may have just purchased what H-D would have given me.

Take it to a MACHINIST and the hole can be enlarged with out compromising the rubber ...

It is a better isolator and it is a retrofit part because that is what H-D has always done which is a H-D part in a BUELL parts kit bag ...

The original H-D part number was 16207-79 and the last up-date is now -79D which means it has been up-dated 4 times since it was first used in 1979 because even with the engine setting on it the early ones could not cut it, even with the BUELL engine hanging from it ...

Just as the REAR ISOLATORS were H-D part number 47564-86 which retrofits from the rear of the H-D soft tail and are now -86B which means they have been up-dated two times since be first used ...

"BUT" they could not cut in the BUELLs so BMC went to a BUELL SPECIFIC which is the BUELLschitte PN L0504.9L(left) and L0505.9R(right) which can cut it !!!

So when the BUELLschitte PART NUMBER is no longer available the H-D retro fit part can be used as it was used on earlier TUBE FRAMES, "BUT" will only last 30 to 40 K miles because BUELLers ride hard ...

What I meant by "given" is that if I had paid H-D that's what I would have been "given," as in handed or shipped to me.

I just want the best parts for my bike and am willing to pay a fair price for them; I have already bought some other parts from American Sport Bike and will likely purchase more.

However, I did order the front iso from American Sport Bike under the impression that it would be an upgrade over the OEM part, then I read in this post that it is just what I would have been able to purchase from H-D.

Regardless, I need a new front iso and it will be here tomorrow, small bolt and all.

I will go ahead with the install per the instructions provided w/the iso.

"then I read in this post that it is just what I would have been able to purchase from H-D."

H-D gets over twice as much for the 16207-79D H-D Iso which is the same as the 17025 B from Al.

Dude, its the part from the factory, its not aftermarket.

Just follow the instructions, none have failed due to the bolt supplied, its extra money and hassle to have it enlarged

Do not cut rubber away to make room for the bigger bolt - you might cause the entire assembly to fail. If the bolt size is an issue for you get a bigger bolt and a lathe and cut the diameter down and re-thread it.

"Do not cut rubber away to make room for the bigger bolt - you might cause the entire assembly to fail. If the bolt size is an issue for you get a bigger bolt and a lathe and cut the diameter down and re-thread"

No rubber is hurt when drilling out, the Iso's have a steel sleeve cast in when made.

I was the first to go the -79D route four years ago this August because of a thread here about Iso failures, heck I drove a 1,000 miles to Minnesota and back and bought a tuber that had ate 3 Iso's in three weeks cause I had nothing else to do at the time.

Why cut down a bolt?proper size bolts are cheap, the only way I'd use the Iso with a 7/16" bolt is with a .032 thick sleeve to take up the diff in the head mount.

This is from an HD site but I thought was good...

"Most that own a '06 touring model are aware of the service bulletin regarding the motor mount issue. When changing to the new version (which is manufactured with stiffer rubber) some have noticed an increase in vibration.I have personally had this experience with my SG. I even tried to purchase the old model after mine was changed out but couldn't find a dealer that had one in their inventory. I figured I would just learn to live with the new version that is until today!
Let me explain. In a recent post the topic of vibration came up. There was a particular response from a fairly new member (RISGDUDE) that got my attention. He said that he was unhappy with the newer motor mount and his dealer suggested he replace it with a Buell motor mount that was softer but stronger than the stock mount that came with the '06's. He tried it and reported good results so I asked him for the part #, ordered one and had it installed today. All I can say is, "WOW!!!" dramatic difference on my SG. I'd estimate a good 35% to 40% (at least) reduction in vibration. Especially at idle.
For those interested the part # is L0501.2

Below is part of the service bulletin that came out in '06 suggesting the change. It shows the old and new style."

Superceded to #79D, its upside down for the Buell,if installed like the pic.

I've had mine installed both ways, couldn't tell much if any difference.

Just get the kit from Al and install it as per the instructions.

I had a bored -79D part on my bike and it got a little messed up because we didn't have the correct washers and it domed the top.

The iso you get in the kit, is as far as I can tell, the exact same as the -79D part, though I've been told from a good source that the rubber compound is different for the Buell application. You also get all of the hardware you need. No boring, no guessing on what needs to be done, no tracking down all the extra bits to complete it.

I'm not as worried about the bolt as the fact that the new kit does not use the D washer. If the rubber lets go, so does the engine. I installed mine per the instructions, but I would be happier if it still used a D washer as a backup.

We'll see how it holds up. I guess I'll just have to keep a closer eye on it, which should be done anyways in my opinion.

I did notice quite a bit more vibration with the new design, as well.

No worries, devil, as the washer is integral to the new isolator.

Boy am I glad to see this.
I just spent a small fortune having the shop rebuild my entire motor and while they were at it,replace all the isolators, which I supplied from American Sport Bike.
As soon as I rode the bike I noticed vibration which was definitely not there before. I thought the new flywheels weren't balanced or something. I have felt like having a mental break down.
So it could be the new front isolator.
Are you saying that the smaller bolt is slopping around causing the vibration or the stiffer rubber or both ?
I don't doubt that the new bolt is strong enough but if there is room for it to rattle around in the mount then I think I would rather use a bigger bolt than a shim.
I do know that my old isolator was starting to fail and that the upgrade should be the way to go rather than use the inferior original. I just wish I knew about it before I started.
Looks like I will be looking for a bolt.

You've spent so much on that bike, the machining work to make a two-diameter bolt will be but a drop in the proverbial bucket. A sleeve is not a sound fix; it can rotate and fracture. Likewise reducing the thickness of the weight-supporting sleeve is questionable engineering. My S3's vibration went way down with the new isolator. Now I can tell the difference between being followed by a car, two bikes, or a cop by looking in my mirrors.

BUELLers:

"i" have been saying all along is basically what Harleyelf has been saying !!!

The -79D is a retrofit from the H-D BIG TWIN which sets on it, your BUELL engine
hangs from it and the bolt is too is too small even if you shim the hole in the front motor mount ...

Like "i" said make the hole bigger or by a
heavy duty aftermarket isolator which were being made long before H-D realized their
-79, -79A, -79B, and -79C up-grades were not strong enough !!!

IF YOU TAKE THE TWO BOLTS TO A MACHINIST AND EXPLAIN HOW IT IS USED, THE MACHINIST WILL TELL YOU TO USED THE LARGER BOLT !!!

This using a -79D part in the BUELL KIT is
just another way of H-D getting the BUELLs off the road in their underhanded way !!!

JUST GET THE ISOLATOR BORED OUT BY A MACHINIST AND GET ON WITH LIFE !!!

Bottom line is, working clearances for high vibration load bearing devices must be maintained to ensure safety. You can make the hole smaller or the bolt bigger, but the excess play must be eliminated before you submit the vehicle to heavy stress. Under low stress, it'll work fine.

That is really wild and disappointing to hear that the harley part is so hard that it made the owner of the new motor think there was a serious problem with the motor. So much vibration... I am on the new kit and with rocker lockers. .030 HG my motor is so quiet with the late style oil pump. race kit so no pinging and motor melt down. Amazing how that works when common sense is applied and the EPA eats shit instead.
