Hi Guys, I really want to paint my rims black this spring and I would like to know if anyone on here has done it and what you did. I noticed that the rims have a sand-like texture that really is confusing me for prepping matters. Please Help!

I know this may sound counter productive to American Ingenuity BUT you may be able to trade your rims to someone else as it may be cheaper or sell them and buy a black set. Otherwise take them off and have them powdercoated for a long service life. Most normal paint will not last as long.

@Buell bert:

I am willing to trade rims if anyone has any black rims that I can use that are NOT in horrible condition. I would rather not have my bike on stilts while waiting for rims to arrive. Powder coating sounds good, but where can I even find a powder coating business?

Hey where are you from? I will help you look and find a place. I had a pair of black rims but sold them. I had a whole bunch of parts powdercoated and it took less than 2 weeks to get done. You can also go to parts wanted here in this forum.

A agree with powdercoating I had several rims powdercoated and it is clean looking. Make sure you find a good company that has a good reputation.

I want polished black rims. I think research on local businesses that powder coat is in order.
