I got my 01 cyclone a little under a year ago. I just Purchased a carb kit from cv performance with a rebuild kit. When i purchased the bike it had a vance and hines muffler that was gutted out and the stock airbox. Im putting on a buell race filter kit with a new core and packing in the muffler. I took the carb apart tonight and could tell someone had been in there before me with a striped hole and miss matched screws. The carb had a 170 main jet.? ? ? The repair manual says it should have a 195 stock. The slow speed jet was a 42 and the mixture screw has been drilled out for adjustment. I have a 200 and 45 to go back in or should i go with a 195 main? I live in New England at sea level sometimes ride in a higher elevation.

200 main and 45 pilot jets are a good starting point.

170 is definitely too small for a Buell M2.

45/190 on thunderstormed S2 with Supertrapp
45/195 on M2 with race filter and race exhaust
48/195 on S1W with race filter and race exhaust

...if you want an on/off switch instead of progressive throttle, sure. Great for drag racing or track days, but for street use...I'll take something with an "in-between" throttle position, thanks.

CV's run just fine when properly tuned. Once I set mine up, I never have to tweak or even clean them. I just...ride the motorcycles.

I have.

And all my bikes still have CV's on them. No issues.

I have both a Mikuni HSR 42 and a CV40 for my 2002 M2.

The Mikuni worked great with the Race Header and Race Muffler but I wanted a more civilized bike so I went back to a stock muffler and reworked my CV 40 to work with a Forcewinder intake.

At first the CV40 seemed to respond as if the throttle cable was a rubber band. That is, response was smooth but a bit slow.

Then I drilled the vacuum port for more immediate throttle response and now I like the way the CV40 works much better.

The reworked CV40 is still not as quick to respond as the Mikuni 42 but much more controllable so I think I now have the best combination for real world street riding.

Besides, my Race Kitted S3T gives me the higher performance I sometimes want so I can have the best of both worlds.
